There was a trolls game I seem to remember loving as a kid, that I hated when I found it again later. I think I liked all the bright colours or something.

Well, I've just un-fucked the house (cleaning anyway, legal and plumbing issues less so) and I'm feeling pretty fantastic. Also exhausted. But fantastic. Cleaning is excellent exercise to make you feel good, because it has all the health benefits of exercise with all the home comfort benefits of… well… cleaning.

insomnia sucks bad. had it since i was 12, hated every (very) waking moment of it

i get scared sometimes i'll never be able to maintain a proper sleep schedule because it's been ruined so many times due to insomnia... i'm gonna try melatonin again and see if that helps -- the last time i tried it i had really bad anxiety about the intense dreams it's supposed to give you and stopped, but my anxiety's been managed better lately so we'll see if i'm not an idiot about it this time

also, i always forget this thread exists and should probably use it more!

I've had insomnia bouts since my mid-teens and it hasn't gone away since.

it's even worse when I get sick (which is really easy for me to get sick) and getting to sleep when really sick is just about out of the question. It's worse when I have fearful moments from anxiety just as i get to bed because that also keeps me awake!

i havent had proper insomnia in quite some time. i was keeping really good schedule a. few months ago in fact, but ever since ive mived back in with my family ive just been unable to sleep properly. x.x

i dont know if it qualifies as insomnia since for the most part im able to stay asleep (and in fact dont want to wake up), but its definitely inconvenient. melatonin doesnt work for me and actually contributed to poorer circadian rhythm last time i tried it.

oh, i dunno if mine counts then and i didn't know that was a criteria... i frequently have trouble falling asleep to where it takes hourssss but i don't really wake up once i'm asleep at least

if that is the case then ive had insomnia for as long as i can remember hahah! i think i always told myself that it wasnt insomnia if i was able to sleep a lot, because i would talk to other people who had insomnia but were reguarly only getting like 2-4 hours of sleep a night... whereas i get anywhere from 8-10 hours of sleep and on really bad days can sleep 12+ hours

Yeah, there are different types of insomnia. I have trouble getting to sleep too sometimes, which is called "sleep-onset insomnia". My mum has the one where she'll wake in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep.

I managed to get mine more under control when I started keeping a better schedule and having better sleep hygiene in general, and now I have a baby it's also good because I fall asleep really easily from sheer--fucking--exhaustion!

@tarale; ohh, okay. that makes a lot of sense! somehow i hadnt considered that there might be different types of insomnia. i did notice that i find myself putting off sleep for all kinds of reasons that are rather small or seemingly unrelated, like how clean my bed/space is, how clean i feel, whether or not ive eaten (ok..this one makes sense but i still tend to avoid it..).

actually this plays into how i treat my daily routine as a whole. i used to force myself to make my bed every morning, once i started with tasks like that i wanted to keep going. lately i have trouble sleeping knowing that the kitchen isnt clean, because i dont want to wake up to a dirty kitchen and feel like thats hanging over me while im trying to start my morning and have breakfast, coffee, and all that.

its hard to keep up with this sorta stuff if youve got depression like i do, but it makes a world of difference when everything comes together to keep your daily routine streamlined. plus, once you get in the habit of doing these sort of things, youre worn out by the end of the day, which in turn makes it easier to fall asleep. seems like worn out advice but it can be seriously tough to motivate yourself that its worthwhile and then keep up with it.

Oh man, routines and habits are SUPER IMPORTANT. My sleep hygiene stuff and my routines also seemed to come together at the same kind of time. There were habits around exercise, housework, sleep, eating properly, etc, that all started to happen together.

All together it helped me with my depression. Like… just enough to be able to deal with life a little better. Waking up rested helps. Not having a sink full of dirty dishes when it's time to cook helps. Exercise helps. All those little bits kinda helped keep me on a more even keel.

Then I had a baby.

now I have a special type of insomnia I'm calling baby-led insomnia
might just be called sleep deprivation

I've been thinking of redoing my routes and habits a lot but I'm not sure where to start. I have trouble sleeping myself because sometimes my medicine I take kicks in under an hour, and other times it doesn't.

did you guys know amish people use cell phones and other electronics? theyre pretty common around here and my sibling works at a local market in our town where lots of amish customers come in so i get to hear some stories. i saw one amish lady buy like 8 bags of cheese puffs. i am curious about what their internal lives are like. i enjoy living around them and getting to see their horses and other livestock. i greatly prefer a small town like this to the city.

admittedly i kinda do envy the idea of living in a small community, i mean granted it was the right fit for me. but itd be hard to get by without modern essentials so i dont think ill be joining them anytime soon.
