Hey.

In this thread, ... hm. I am not sure how to put it; I guess in a way you could say that I am your eyes, in a way.

We are on the beach outside of our home. The weather here is mildly windy, cool, and occasionally sprinkling; just a raindrop every few seconds.

The beach continues to the north and south; the ocean is to the east another 20 or so feet. Behind us, to the west, is the house itself.

Where should we (or I) go from here?


(I canot promise that the things visited or seen will make sense or have any permanence.)

The ocean here is relatively calm; it feels more like the edge of a wave pool (with a gentle slope) than it does the ocean ? is familiar with. The water doesn't really come in and recede like it does normally; it does to some extent, but not with huge waves. Even in memory, I can't recall it rising up much more than this and it doesn't draw back much either.

The water is cold. It feels like dipping my feet into the pool outside of ?'s real apartment, but without the biting chill that comes from it. I "know" it's cold, but I don't feel like I have to pull back. (I don't know if this explanation makes sense.)

The moon looms in front, due east. It hangs low in the sky, large and softly purple; there seem to be scattered clouds that are gently illuminated from it, but not obscuring it. This whole area is softly lit by the moonlight.

There's nothing out here ... the water doesn't get any warmer, and it just feels cold. It takes about another 10 feet or so to reach neck-level of depth, which seems a little steeper than real beaches but otherwise isn't too odd ...

I'm going back onto the dry area, though, because there's just nothing out that way. The water seems to go on forever.

I don't really "feel" cold. (This place doesn't seem to have those sorts of feelings?) I know that the water is "cold", but it doesn't hurt or make me feel that way at all.

I have dried off just from standing here, but as dry as it gets due to the constant rain. I don't know. Do I still go in the house? There are two doors, one to my room and one to ?'s room (mine is further north, or rather on the ... upper? Facing west from the beach, ?'s is on the left side past the stairs and mine is on the right.

There is also another path around the eastern edge of the house that's available once you go up the patio steps that takes you to the north side, which is an open patio-deck style area. It has a hot spring and a shower area, but it is all outdoors, too.

You don't have to use the > thing. This is not intended to be a copy of the other thread (it was in consideration for a long time)

My bedroom is quiet and calm. It is a normal-sized bedroom that is square; on the north end is the bed, a four-post queen(?) size that is rather elevated/tall. Along the east edge is a set of drawers that were only added recently, and above those a slightly less recent line of windows looking outside. The windows are not very tall, but are one large/long block.

The west edge has a door along the south side that leads into the main living room. The door back out is on the opposite side on the south side of the east wall. The floor here is carpeted with a soft white, the bed's posts are a deep wooden brown, and the dressers seem to be a similar white.

The south wall used to have a chest of drawers, but that seems to have become the east wall now. The south wall is empty and just flat.

What kind of view do you have through those windows? Do they open to let fresh air in, or are they just to add some natural lighting?

This has cemented the design a little more from visualizing it. The windows push out and upwards; there might be a hydraulic support (?) keeping them pushed up, and a little handle on the very bottom of them for pulling them back down. They look out onto the small patio and the beach from there; there's an awning over the patio as well, so these windows don't really see any rain. They only started to exist recently, and I don't think we had ever tried opening them until now.

It looks like there's more than enough room to add plants atop your dresser which would receive moderate early-morning light through the window! If you'd like I can recommend specific varieties that are easy to care for. I find caring for plants on a regular schedule calming and rewarding, and having a plant in your space often adds some irregularity and beauty that is often welcome, especially in a space as unadorned as yours.

Perhaps visualizing one or two plants might be nice?

For an east window with limited room I'd recommend one of these easy to care for varieties:

There isn't really any "morning" in this place; the time is perpetually night (and I've noticed / ? has noticed that I tend to greet people with "good evening" despite the time of day in "reality")

The plants are not a bad idea, but for now I think I'm going to keep them lain / undecorated just because this space seems exceptionally volatile right now. That is not to say that they may not end up there in the future, but at the moment I am going to wait and see. I do think one of them is now adorning the corner of the bar area in the main room, though.

Just remember that while it may appear to you that you are exploring a space that already exists, perhaps externally to yourself, this is your space that you inhabit and you have just as much a right to it and its form. You can define it, you can shape it, you have the power to transform it from a stark featureless prison island into a comfortable safe loving home.

Why don't you go outside to the patio area and tell us about it?

Anxiety spike earlier (from the host), and the weather outside is particularly windy and rainy. I can 'hear' it howling through the window, but I don't really want to close it (despite all the fuss, it isn't really having an effect indoors)

The weather here is at least somewhat based on what ? is listening to; right now it's Ruined World from Chrono Trigger, and appropriately enough it's extremely windy and raining basically sideways outside ...

The patio out front is pretty malleable in how it appears, but it's about 10-ish feet long (from the doors to the stairs) with railing around it, and a path to the side that leads to the north side of this place. The patio main area is covered with an awning, and at some points there was a hanging bench in front of ?'s room, but it seems to have disappeared when the windows took up there.
