So, I didn't know this for a long time, but apparently Fairy Bread is something people don't do outside of Australia.

For the non-Aussies, Fairy Bread is a dish served at children's parties. It's white bread, buttered, with hundreds & thousands (sprinkles) on top. It's served cut up into little triangles (often with the crusts off for the kids) either cool or at room temperature.

A lesser-known variant is to replace the butter with condensed milk. But that sounds insane!

Either way, it's bread and sugar. It's delicious, and the plate is often one of the first ones cleared.

St. Louis style pizza is really weird but i still really like it. there is by SOME miracle a really good St. Louis style pizza place not far from here at all

toasted ravioli too and i really like that too. my girlfriend was kind of amazed that something so decadent existed when i told her about it

as far as weird St. Louis cuisine goes tho nothing will ever top fried brain sandwiches but i would say that they are less "apparently weird" and more "disgusting" and "whoever thought this was food should go to jail" (i have never had this and i never will)



also fairy bread sounds like something i prolly woulda really liked when i was 8 or so

Scotland has a bunch of weird food, but most of the ones that I know are weird aren't that common. Saying that, my fiancée found it weird when I was looking for macaroni pies and square sausage in Australia. We also deep fry more things than we should, but that sounds like something the US is good at too.

They do the whole fries and mayonnaise thing at the Belgian Beer Café here too. It's alright. If I do it, I'll tend to use Kewpie mayonnaise… it's the only mayonnaise I really like.

when i leave the Pacific Northwest, people get really weird about it. but here, it’s really common, just like it’s common to have cream cheese on your hotdog and to dip your pizza in ranch.

fries and mayonnaise is a really weird combination to me and it doesn't make sense. like, why overpower the fry with something so rich (i hate mayonnaise to be fair)

but then, i genuinely feel that way about fries and standard ketchup, which is frankly a condiment i don't get and find really weird. if there's not a good sauce available i will just eat my fries dry

now weird/more interesting variations on mayonnaise/ketchup, those are good

anyway, i try not to be judgmental about the food other people eat, honestly, weird food is cool. there's so many permutations and variations in food that arise in different cultures, and i really enjoy trying new things and seeing if i like th--

I admit I've kinda come around on the whole ranch-on-pizza thing lately, but I only dip the crust and not the entire slice (I'm not that disgusting).

Marco's has a jalapeño ranch dip that is actually really good for that.

I thought I'd bring up the other one for Australians - we consider pies savoury by default. Everyone else gives you a very strange look when you say you had a meat pie for lunch or something, because the single-serve pies are a very Australian thing, and meat pies are mostly a English colonial thing, so you get this mashup of ideas that weird people out.

yeah, but by that point you're basically just eating breadsticks with ranch which isn't that weird. also jalapeño ranch sounds good

is Seattle's pizza really so notably bad? not saying i doubt you just that i have zero frame of reference for what it's like. i feel like Denver's pizza is just kind of mediocre and not-that-noteworthy. i dunno if i'm just not aware that the pizza i'm eating is actually awful because i've never really tried any really really good pizza, or if Seattle's pizza really is that aggressively horrible
