but also i’m not terribly interested in the Game Boy Color. imo, the color addition is superfluous most of the times, particularly in the case of games where you can play it on either system.

furthermore, the 2-bit coloring of the Game Boy creates a feeling comparable of shooting black + white film vs. color film. the graphics on-screen are thus divorced from life-likeness & become abstract. i think this abstraction is more aesthetically pleasing.

maybe one day, but for now i am happy w/ the Game Boy Pocket.

I didn't feel that the GBC's stuff was excessive or tacked on, but I also grew up with Link's Awakening on both monochrome and color (but several years apart). The Pocket definitely has its charm, but I just like the feel of the curvy Color and its sharp screen more.

A good compromise would be some way to toggle the GBC from running in GBC or GB mode, even for games that ordinarily support GBC. Best of both worlds.

to me, playing GBC games felt like i was playing games that had color added artificially later, the way it feels when one looks at a colorized photo.

the screen issue is true, but i forgot that was a thing b/c i got the bivert mod which makes the GBP have a more GBC-like sharp screen.

yeah i think it'd be cool to have a b+w switch. the GBC kind of does, actually, at least for GB games. i think i like the compact size of the GBP more at any rate. altho, it'd be nice to have a backlit GBC some day as well...

removed my old bedroom couch, which was one of the last non-white/non-off-white pieces of furniture in my home.

previously, i had the SOLSTA sofa in dark navy/grey under my STORÅ loft. i found this previous product at a thrift store & it had served me for a good two years. despite the suitable (relative to my aesthetics) shape of the SOLSTA, i identified the following issues w/ it:

1. form
   the seat was slipping, providing very little support for extended seating;


2. design
   bad color (apartment is all-white w/ sparing pastels + off-white);¹


3. function
   unfriendly solution to housing guests if the sofa + bed are occupied

finding a suitable replacement, however, was a challenge. the under-loft area is designed to be secluded, private. it should be an area of intimacy for friends playing video games, watching movies or listening to the Tivoli-docked iPod. thus, the sofa should fit squarely w/in the width of the loft, not jutting out into the rest of the room.

the STORÅ is the largest of IKEA's lofts, on which a full sized mattress can be fitted. the width of the frame comes to 58 ¼″, so the new sofa would have to be around that size (give or take an inch or two).² this eliminates a significant amount of IKEA's loveseat collection, see below:

in the end, the only option i had was the KNISLIGNE, a $279 59″ sofa that came in only "samsta dark brown" and "samsta dark gray", neither color fitting into my home particularly well. too much money for something that doesn't fit in.



thankfully, the KNISLIGNE has existed in the IKEA catalogues of previous seasons in many variations, including a black pleather one & a light beige, micro-suede variant. after searching for several months, i came across a listing on Facebook Marketplace for the latter for $20.³ the dramatic price reduction came from the presence of a tear in the front of the piece.⁴

there were a few logistical complications w/r/t picking this up (bribing a friend to U-Haul it, coordinating the pick-up, etc.) but late last night, the sofa was successfully reassembled & inserted into its new home. i played some video games (Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, in my friend's Switch's inaugural docking) & listened to music. see the photo below for an image of the sofa taken this morning as crepuscular light spilled in through the sheer curtains. great for some tea & curling up w/ a Kindle!



¹ early on, i considered buying a cover from eBay or etsy, but they were out of my price range, did not look good & ultimately meant i'd still be using a couch that was structurally weak.

² the SOLSTA, actually, is only 53 ⅞″. this was fine b/c it generally rested against the legs of the loft. still, people would occasionally bump the soft & throw it off the alignment.

³ incidentally, there was also one for the former, priced at $100.

⁴ this is a non-issue b/c people will generally approach this sofa from the side; there is no room for a frontal approach.
