Dude, there's no way anything you said had anything to do with it. Before you even said anything there were risk factors, like my age, that led to the complications. And again, it worked out fine because the midwives and doctors are very well trained and knew exactly what to do. And even though it was pretty scary at the time, we're both doing well now. You didn't screw anything up.

On another note, baby and I left the house for our first big outing on our own. We've been cooped up here for six weeks… more than that if you count being cooped up before his birthday. I'd been to the supermarket, which is within walking distance, but today we caught the bus into the city and went to my work. I got to see adult people! And have conversations! And buy a decent lunch! And baby got to have a bus ride! And see new people! And get lots of hugs! It went very well, but by the end he was very tired and got a little overtired and cranky. It was a good day!

It's great that everything's going well now, and I can't imagine being totally cooped up at home for weeks like that. It was bad enough when I had a nasty cold and was stuck on the couch for a week

Yeah, it's… been pretty boring and isolating. The kid's cute and everything, but he's not much of a conversationalist. It's getting better now he doesn't need to nurse so often and for so long… there are gaps in the day I could do other things!

LOL hell no. Not a full-time job, anyway. Perhaps something with long hours and on call. Maybe like being a junior doctor… I hear they have long hours, no sleep, and can be on call.

Just nursing can be 8 hours of the day. Then there are other things like changing, settling him to sleep, developmental play activities, preparing and sterilising bottles, and taking care of yourself (and stuff around the house, like baby's laundry) somewhere in there.

But the nursing eventually stops being a full time job. It's starting to ease off now, except for when he has a mental development leap.

Okay, so it sounds like... way too much work


It's been weird seeing this place fairly active again; I know it's probably temporary until we collectively lose interest again, but in the mean time it's been nice seeing everyone around.

Hopefully we can keep it up for a while and explore new topics.

for the record, there are a few reasons i'm back:
  1. got a fairly retro style laptop that made me nostalgic for the retro Internet things i'd do
  2. bored/frustrated w/ FB
  3. i miss my dear, old friends on this site!

Kids are so much work. I'm glad I only have one!

social media is definitely, more or less, on the fritz rn

but also i've honestly just preferred the format of an AcmlmBoard. i wish i could get all of them on a board w/ me. sometimes i fantasize about how my non-Jul friends would design their layout if they hung out here.

You could always encourage them.


And one of many nice things about this place is that it's not a constant feed of crap you have to scroll through. Everything's broken into topics and I can ignore the awful news threads if I want, I don't have to scroll past them or mute whatever's going on.

(The speed of discussions is also a lot slower )

I got my Paid Parental Leave moneys!! I didn't even have to phone Centrelink again or anything!

Now I feel less bad about my spending. I haven't been going nuts, but I have enough that I don't feel guilty that I bought myself some chocolate either.

Yay, upcoming leave! The last bit before leave is always the worst. Well… that and the bit where you go back. Hopefully the time will fly for you!

Well, the midwife was just here, and she's weighed and measured the kid. He's growing really fast. Thriving. The only thing that isn't going so well is sleep, and that's normal.

I had a friend around and they cuddled the baby while I did some housework and cackled. It had been a while since I'd been able to vacuum or mop, so it was intensely satisfying, and everything looks so much nicer now.

Not really. I enjoy the effect once the chores are done. The house is much more calming when it's clean.

I'd been managing to keep the house tidy, but the floor had been getting dusty and dirty. Because the baby takes up so much time, I had just been watching it get messy without being able to do anything about it. When I finally did get a chance, every swish of the vacuum was just… oh so good.

The house has felt magical since.
