i went to several thrift stores today. at one of them, i saw this little Windows tablet, a Lenovo Miix 2 8, going for $12.99.

i knew to pick it up, even if it didn't work. it seemed to, at the very least, charge when i plugged it into the wall w/ my micro-USB cable (always keep one handy).

when i got home, i managed to re-install Windows onto it. it's a neat little machine, but i'm not sure what i'm going to do w/ it. i'll probably sell it.

Looks like a cute tablet!

I ordered a bunch more LIFX bulbs because there was a sale on, and I have some lamps I'd like them in. Currently our bulbs are in the ceiling fittings, but I prefer lamps to the overhead lights. Less… harsh, somehow?

it’s b/c lamps [via shades] have some level of diffusion unless you're right below it (or above it, somehow). i try to maximize diffused lighting in my home for a similar reason, replacing overhead lighting w/ diffused ones (such as paper lanterns or those white glossy globe things etc.)

I figured it was to do with diffusion, and bought light fittings that diffuse the light, but lampshades definitely seem to do it better.

Still, the frosted glass diffusing covers are a lot better than how it WAS. Husband just had the bulbs in there "naked" and that was hideous. Plus if you looked up you'd burn bulb images into your retinas for a good while.

It took me some convincing to let him know this was not "fine".

lol, there was a trend where people would display bare bulbs:

but of course, it was always low-lumen bulbs—not ones of “standard” brightness. i’m not a big fan of this look, though. personally, i kinda hate it.

Ah, but I can deal with that better than the naked LIFX bulbs. Those usually have special incandescent bulbs with decorative filaments and fittings designed to show them off. It's not really my thing, but in some settings they look alright.

Husband was just putting the LIFX bulbs into the ceiling socket, with no cover. Not only was it harsh, it doesn't really allow all the pretty colours to show well. And the bulb itself isn't that decorative, just a chunky bit with a little flat plastic bit on the end for the LEDs.

What's that one on the right?

bulbchat

The only time I see bare bulbs is usually in bathrooms, and they're those large, round, clear ones.

Ah, yep.

Anyway, I got Sonic Mania and another Switch game I can't remember the name of (but those were both digital downloads).

A 32GB USB drive that...dislikes being formatted to anything other than FAT32 apparently???

Currently trying different things to see if it formats properly. Having it use NTFS would be nice.

Eh, try this:

1. Insert the USB flash drive into the USB port.
2. Click Start, type devmgmt.msc in the Search textbox and press Enter.
3. Find Disk Drives and expand it.
4. Find the USB flash drive you want to format, and double-click it. It opens the Properties dialog box.
5. Click Policies tab.
6. By default, the Optimize for quick removal option selected, switch it to Optimize for performance and then pressOK.
7. Now open Computer. Right click on the USB Flash Drive and select Format. The Format dialog box now appears.
8. Select NTFS in the File System field.
9. Press Start and wait while the process will be completed.
10. Now your USB Flash Drive is formatted with NTFS format.

I tried that before, it didn't really work unfortunately. It doesn't want to format to NTFS or exFAT, it just fails even if I use the Disk Management tool (or whatever it's called). I can do a non-quick format and it seems to work fine, but I don't have enough time to wait for it to finish today (maybe tomorrow or after).

Was it a super-cheap drive or a quality one? Because if it's a cheap one it might be totally lying about what it is.

it was slightly cheaper than I expected but it was still a sealed SanDisk one and it seemed legit, now I'm not so sure

just got a glass screen lens for my Game Boy Pocket, which already has the biversion and backlight mod. tbf, this is in my opinion the change that actually made playing this handheld console most enjoyable.

apologies for the quality, i cropped this out of a larger photo i took.

easy to do, actually.

but also i’m not terribly interested in the Game Boy Color. imo, the color addition is superfluous most of the times, particularly in the case of games where you can play it on either system.

furthermore, the 2-bit coloring of the Game Boy creates a feeling comparable of shooting black + white film vs. color film. the graphics on-screen are thus divorced from life-likeness & become abstract. i think this abstraction is more aesthetically pleasing.

maybe one day, but for now i am happy w/ the Game Boy Pocket.

I bought another boardgame (card game actually) Sushi Go Party! It's pretty great, simplistic drafting game, but has variety and depth.
