I made this place, for one.

But before that, back in 2001, I found it via the the path of "Acmlm's ROM Hacking Domain", from the old "Challenge Games" website, from an article in some gaming magazine about fan translations — there was a little blurb about ROM editing that linked to the CG site, back when it was still smb3.darkmazda.com (I think).

Share your stories.

NSMB hacking, in 2008. Looking for cheat/etc NSMB videos of youtube, found videos of edited levels. Was interested. Found Treeki's webpage. It linked to this place and board2 (still referred to as 'Justus League II' and 'Acmlm's Boad II' on the page).

board2 was mostly dead, no replies.

At Jul, I got a 'friendly welcome' from Tanks. As much as I was an idiot back then, the place was a tad elitist.

I was in the emulation scenes before that, though. It started in 2007, joining NGEmu, making shitty PCSX2 plugins...

KLayout v3.1
It started with this video, that linked me to TCRF around 2010. Some time later I noticed the message board link and the forum but never registered until late 2013 (arguably that's a good thing - you didn't want to know how my 12/13 year old self was).

I've mentioned this on #x, but when I joined in I expected to post a lot/only in the TCRF section, as I initially thought this place was mostly a forum for TCRF. Not too long after, well... while I did end up posting on the TCRF section, the majority of the posts went elsewhere.

I'll just paraphrase what I just wrote in #x:

- Found Acmlm's Board Incarnation 1 (very briefly before the board crash, actually), basically only joined because of Lunar Magic, posted rarely if at all on this and subsequent non-Jul Acmlm's incarnations
- Bloodstar tells me that there is a community full of "cool people" called Justus League; I think I might have joined it but never posted? I'm not 100% sure what happened there, it was 10 years ago, my memory is hazy
- I post a little bit more on board2 and I want all of those posts burned to the ground with no prejudice whatsoever
- I join "Justus League 2", post like 100 times or so then kind of slow down, then Bloodstar prods me to post here more in like 2009 and I find I enjoy most of the people here and my activity skyrockets, holds steady for about 3 years, then kind of tapers off

I came for the ROM hacking, but also Bloodstar probably would have dragged me into coming here even without the ROM hacking part

Back between 2006 and 2009 or so, I sometimes lurked Simon Wai's Sonic 2 Beta Page, later known as Sonic Retro, as a trial member. The community didn't really entice me, and I wasn't a very good poster to begin with, I just enjoyed reading about the prototype discoveries and reverse engineering. I remember finding out Jul thanks to a link in Xkeeper's signature. I lurked for a while, reading threads and such, mainly seeing it as a place for general ROM hacking talk. I did eventually register and very quickly Jul filled my niche for a forum with general threads to participate in, and just overall fun socialization.

I may be the only person who joined due to a forum signature.

I joined Acmlm's Board Incarnation 2 (very briefly before the board crash, actually (HAH)) and followed onto third incarnation. I was first known as Populous, after that as INSERT COIN and nowadays Pandaren. I initially hopped on after I played some rad romhack for SMW, I don't remember which one.

After the third incarnation crashed, I followed / was invited to join Justus League.

I used to lurk the first incarnation of the acmlmboard, discovered romhacking, then actually joined the forum in like, '03? Then discovered I was terrible at romhacking the things people liked (mainly Mario stuffs) and just casually existed on the various incarnations over the years. It's long enough ago I don't actually know for sure how I discovered acmlmboard. Zophar's maybe?

...

It has been fifteen years.

2001, was looking for a Mario version of Zelda Classic, discovered Acmlm's ROM Hack Domain instead... not long after I noticed it had a message board, and so the legend began...

Floated in and out of existence for awhile, including when Jul started up... And didn't really become more reliably around again until a personal crisis made me give up going to another forum I used to go to...

I don't really know when I first found Jul. As a huge fan of things like cut content, glitches and rom hacking I found the TCRF wiki and used it as a source of entertainment for a few years. Then one day I was getting a bit lonely due to my lack of offline friends and decided to make an account here, I honestly thought I wouldn't be here long but here I am now. To me Jul is like a hidden gem on the internet.

>>ESTABLISHING LINK...DONE.    >>FETCHING POST DATA...DONE.    >>EXECUTING POSTDISP.BIN...

I remember lurking on some old, old incarnation of Acmlm's Board at some point prior to 2006 or so, but I never registered there and I can't even remember what exact incarnation it was. I do remember that there was role-playing going on and that I did enjoy reading one person's RP threads, because I had been doing forum RP-ing elsewhere myself, and their stories and character(s?) were interesting. No idea who it was anymore, tho.

After that, I ended up joining Jul in late 2008 when I was doing some Super Mario 64 stuff, because it was, from what I could tell back then, the center of SM64 hacking back in around 2007/2008. I wasn't around a whole lot, didn't post much, and when I did it was mostly just in ROM hacking.

Then "modern day" TCRF started in 2009 or 2010, and I slowly started becoming involved with that. First by just posting random notes or corrections on the forums, then joining the wiki proper a bit later to make an article for some Star Fox 64 unused stuff I had found before. I still mostly posted in ROM hacking and TCRF, still wasn't very active overall, etc. - looking through my old posts, it seems my first one outside of these areas came two years after I joined, in the general anime thread.

These days, I still am not exactly active, tho if I do post, I do so outside of RH and TCRF too now. Like right now.

Back when I learned about SMW romhacks i wound up looking around (but never registering to iirc) SMWC, though when i saw NSMB romhack videos on YT i ended up here, and eventually made an account when i started making vanilla edits to SM64.

Kinda this, except Zophar's -> FuSoYa's site -> Acmlm's.

I wasn't that active around the time of the third incarnation and beyond, so I don't really remember how I got here though.

STANDING HERE OR▒ JU

MPING WHERE▒ HOW DID
I GET HERE▓▓▓▓▓

I joined Incarnation 3 back in the May of 2006. I'm pretty sure I was doing an image search for Mario sprites, and I found the Mario ranks page. I thought they looked cool, so my 12 year old self was enticed to join and talk about video games. I was intrigued by the ROM hacking scene, but I never got into it personally.

During this time, I also joined a few of the very small splinter communities, like Zachio's board, and made some closer friendships than I felt was possible on Acmlm's board. Unfortunately, both the communities and the friendships never seemed to last for very long, but they probably played a part in why I stayed with Acmlm's board in the first place.

After the fall of Incarnation 3, I moved on to Acmlm's Board II, as it was called at the time. I gradually lost interest in the community and what seemed like constant drama among the staff, so shortly after the creation of Jul and the takeover of board2, I left the community for a while.

A few months later, I rejoined Jul, and I've been here ever since.

Hint: Sometimes looking through your oldest posts can help you remember stuff.

About me, I found this place through a link in the sidebar of The Cutting Room Floor, joined there at the end of 2014 and shortly after I joined this place. Similarly (except not), I don't really remember how I found TCRF itself. I know it wasn't before 2011 though (only been 5 years and I don't remember it!). It was already a wiki, and I remember the constant 500 errors at times. It might've been through any of these 4 sites:

I don't even visit the non-english ones anymore since 2013 (?). There might've been a few links here and there to TCRF, or TCRF-related content combined with Google searches that led me here, dunno really. You would think I would remember it, but honestly it was one of those websites I randomly stumbled upon and only after quite a while I started to really like it.

I remember that I was quite afraid of joining an internet community though. You see, I attempted to start a minor YouTube channel as early as 2011, but all attempts failed miserably. And with how things were going at school, I had absolutely no idea how to join a community, let alone actively participate in it. It had everything to be a recipe for disaster, but it wasn't. Phew. I even remember the even more awkward 1 e-mail I sent to Xkeeper asking him if he could add something to the wiki because I didn't want to risk creating an account there, hopefully he doesn't remember it. It ended up being my first edit to the wiki after I decided to create an account though. Sorry about that.

I feel weird being one of the youngest people here (both in terms of actual age and time since registration and stuff), but it's certainly been fun.

It was... late 2003 or 2004? I was at home one night looking for games with level editors I could play (I had a HUGE obsession with level editors) and found Lunar Magic. Ended up on Acmlm's Board from there and... well, yep.

I started getting into Final Fantasy forums around 2000, 2001. Found one called FFLegend and met Acmlm there. Joined his board when me made it all those years ago. I was never into rom hacking but it was such a diverse place that it never mattered. I wasn't around for all the stuff that happened from the original board to landing at Jul. I was searching for ffalexandria references (my old website) and found Anya/NextJen talking about her history during a member of the month interview. I registered here and now I drop in from time to time.

IIRC I found a link (and a short blurb) about Acmlm's board via RHDN when I was fairly new into hacking. Since then I have just sort of stayed around I guess? I don't really feel I was ever any large part of any of the boards or that frequent of a poster.
