I've been digging through a whole lot of games recently, mainly for the Amstrad CPC and the ZX Spectrum. In those games, I've found lots of code fragments in all sorts of games (especially for the ZX Spectrum). However, I've also found a couple of fragment in Game Boy (Color) games, such as Urban Strike and Xena: Warrior Princess . Also, I found some boot-up code in Rad Mobile.

However, I wouldn't be surprised if there were many more instances of this too. However, I have a suspicion these instances are in games not many people have looked into. I've also noticed there's a lot more code in 80's and 90's games than in any other time period. Still, it would be interesting to hear about instances where pieces of the source code ended up in the ROM.

It's not quite the same thing, but Marathon 2 has some of its uncompiled code in a couple of its text boxes.

I always found that rather unique for Marathon 2, especially since I know of no other instances in the whole Mac library with any kind of code hidden, whether it be for Mac OS Classic or Mac OS X or macOS.

Also of note is that Zeppelin Games's games have some master disks out there, many of which contain code fragments. However, two games of theirs, Mazie for the CPC and Kick Box Vigilante on the Spectrum, have so much code on the master disks that it's almost ridiculous.

Might as well try to come up with a command for grep to find code quicker.

grep -f wordlist.txt /path/to/file

A short list of words in wordlist.txt are as follows (but this also goes for tools like The Peeper):

CALL
RET
BEQ
JP
JMP
JSR
ADD
MOV
SUB
equ
dec
inc
lda
ldb
sta
stb
include
char
bool
int
long
word
void
value

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
