I recently uploaded a file with the wrong name. The file was called PKMNGnS-PackBallPrerelease.gif while it should have been called PKMNGnS-PackItemsPrerelease.gif. While the file can be used with the wrong filename, it can get confusing when working with multiple files if some of them are named incorrectly.

I've fixed this file name for you. If you need to fix another in the future, follow these steps:

-Click on the "Move" tab at the top of the file's page.
-Change the file name as needed, and give a reason.

At this point, the file will be moved to the new name and will automatically create a redirect from the old name.

-Fix the file name on all linked pages to match the new name.
-Go back to the original file name and edit that page.
-Replace the entire "#REDIRECT" content with a delete tag, and a reason.

And that's it! An administrator will delete the old name/redirect at a later time.

Can't you disable the creation of a redirect on moves? I'm pretty sure that's an option.

From what I understand, normal users can't disable that.

Thanks. On a related note, what should I do if I accidentally upload two files using each other's names?
Example:
PicA is called File2
PicB is called File1

PicA should be called File1
PicB should be called File2

I've done this once before, and I did work it out eventually, but rather sloppily.

Be creative with an alternative name, I guess. Move "File1" to "File-2" and then "File2" to "File-1".

Filenames are not of extreme importance on the wiki (provided they follow the naming guidelines), so if you mess up something relatively unimportant like spelling or numbering, I wouldn't bother moving the file(s) unless you really, really need to.

What I had done last time was call two character sprites by each other's names, which can get confusing when working with them. It was made worse by the fact that they were from Probotector, so the names were alphanumeric codes. If this happens in the future I'll do something along the lines of m64m's suggestion.
