Aside from the tiles being incredibly unorganized even for Capcom... Arcade Strider has these sprites.

There are a lot more frames for Hiryu than the game uses.
Normally, when going downhill, Hiryu breaks into a sprint. When at the bottom of the hill, he goes back into his normal walking sprites and going uphill has him climb up the hill, no matter what his actual speed is since Hiryu does not lose speed unless he moves up an incline.

Sprites exist for more speed variations on some angles. For instance, a slow walk down an incline, and pictured above, a sprint on level terrain. These sprites don't seem to be used despite being present in the tiles.

The above are guess frames put together. If there's an anim test in the Arcade Strider, these frames might exist there in a properly assembled form, and with probably the nightmare of alternates since it seems nearly every frame has an alternate where he swings the Cipher.

I'm now even more convinced that SEGA got some of the gameplay ideas for Sonic from working on their Mega Drive Strider port...

Did I ever mention that Hiryu and Sonic can use the same palette colors without a problem, even?

Well whatever else is there won't hide for long with you guys around. Ranks up there in the ludicrously easy scripts to rip I've ever seen in a game.

In stages 141 and 142, there are 4 starting positions, indicating that they were at one point some kind of minigame.

what.

Like...dropping the sprites straight into the game, without remapping any colors? That can't be a coincidence...

Same palette colors, but changing their order. Still a pretty big coincidence, as you can see in the pic...

I finished playing through Wolfenstein: The New Order on PC and looked for a program to unpack its data files 'cause why not. The audio is currently impossible to extract cleanly and I'm currently looking into a way to see the textures using a third party tool (I need a LOT of hard drive space though, yeek.)

But anyway, another tool is capable of extracting the text from the game and I found references to a cut mission from one of the later levels, and a LOT of incidental dialogue that doesn't seem to show up anywhere. And all, and I mean ALL, of the stuff the enemies scream at you during fights is subtitled - but none of it is ever used. The only parts that are used are some bits said by the commanders while they speak to their superiors, and the text said by the soldiers if they notice anything weird going on.

This should make for an interesting TCRF page. Eventually.

Edit: Oh my my my. The game has the usual developer console cheat codes, too.

http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/714240-wolfenstein-the-new-order/cheats
http://steamcommunity.com/app/201810/discussions/0/540742667897455716/

I wonder if there's a noclip mode in there, too.

Edit: Bah, there doesn't seem to be any.

Edit: I found a way to rip the textures but it refuses to work on my machine, so I'll only work on the text stuff. Sorry.

GC-forever's hack board is a treasure trove of codes that I don't believe I've seen anywhere else. I've seen codes for the map select and other debugging features for Animal Crossing (I don't think we had a NTSC code for that yet), a really nifty debugger for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, and Megaman X Command Mission. I'm reposting these here just in case, but all the credit goes to Ralf@gc-forever for the original codes!

Ahahaha. Real Boxing on the PC has a ton of leftover files from Unreal Tournament 2004 and 3 - a ton of text strings are present in the Localization\INT\ folder. These are obviously leftovers from the development process, but most Unreal Engine games... actually remove these files after shipping.

Oh, did I mention it has 160MB of UNREAL ENGINE DEVELOPMENT TOOLS included for some reason? This isn't like Ride to Hell where it only had a few leftover files... this is the whole thing. There's stuff to package games for iPhone and Mac, too.

I was gonna add it to the article, but the strict image requirements put me off from doing so. As I didn't take the screenshot, I dunno if it'd get chewed out or not.

Was catching up on this thread and I noticed this. It's not in the wiki article, the link in the post is broken and I can't find any other mention of it anywhere. Does anyone know if it was ever looked into?

... byuu moved the forum to his own hosting... and everything was lost in the process. Nothing was moved to the new server.

SOME stuff survived at Archive.org by pure luck. So, here.

Just started extracting the sound files from Sonic Lost World for the Wii U, and in "se_system_worldmap.acb" I found this depressing-sounding variant of the item fanfare (original DSP files for those are here). It's not on the official soundtrack, either. The game's internal name for it is "sys_jingle_release_ng" and follows the same naming scheme as the fanfares that are used ("sys_jingle_release_1", "sys_jingle_release_2", "sys_jingle_release_3", and "sys_jingle_release_4"). Perhaps you could somehow fail to get an item reward from the missions at some point of the game's development?

One more thing I want to inquire about, that may not even really belong here but whatever:

http://www.reddit.com/r/creepygaming/comments/1c0wqm/kidpix_hidden_message_does_anyone_at_all_remember/

I know it sounds like BS, considering there's no mention of it anywhere else, but I have fond memories of KidPix and if there's a chance it's true then I'd want to find it. Unfortunately I have no leads - there were many different versions of the program, and I have no experience decompiling Windows 3.1/Mac kind of software...

The story goes that it was an image revealed by the Magic Eraser tool. I found the file containing those images on my (Win 3.1) version (KPHIDDEN.DAT), just a bunch of plain bitmaps, and extracted them all manually. Nothing secret found, but I never expected it would be in plain sight like that to begin with.

Just... mentioning.

Edit: I should also mention that I sent messages to the reddit guys telling the story basically asking if they were serious, and they both insist they were. If that means anything.

Sounds a little suspect, to be honest. Which version of KidPix were you using for Windows? I tried it with Mac KidPix 1.1, the earliest version I can think of that was released by Broderbund, but nothing happened. I tried every modifier key with no results. I'd probably guess it would be in either KidPix 2 or Studio, since both of those came after the versions programmed solely by Craig.

If you want to look inside, there's Super ResEdit, a modified version of ResEdit which can search through the 68k code of a Mac program. This does require knowledge of the 68k assembly language.

I don't honestly know what version I have, I've long since lost the one I had as a kid. I found it downloadable online somewhere on a CD-ROM image, it doesn't have anything that seems to indicate a version number that I can find but it says "C 1992 Broderbund Software, Inc." on the title screen.

I myself suspected KidPix 2 and Studio but I was completely unable to find a copy of either one at the time, for download or sale...

Probably Kid Pix Companion then. Both titles can be found on the Mac Garden, but they do need a Mac emulator like Sheepshaver or Basilisk II. You can find tutorials on the internet, if you're clever with a search engine.

Yo, turns out Dark Souls actually has "equipment" descriptions for the parasite egg and dragon body parts despite them not actually appearing in the equipment slots? Guess it was supposed to work like DkS II at one point?

Yes, the dragon parts' description is supposed to cut off like that. Or, well, it's probably not supposed to, but it does.

If there's some way to display these and it's just non-obvious, sorry!

more misc. shit:

アイテムうんちく.fmg entry 2504: Demon Flame 5

There's no item with this index number referred to in most of the other files, but 2500-2503 are the Lord Souls. The way the index numbers are organized, it's almost certain that this is in fact the "description" of a fifth Lord Soul! Obviously just a placeholder, but the fact that it even exists is curious.

Also present in EquipParamGoods.param. With the Japanese name. デーモンの火5 translates to - unsurprisingly - "Demon Flame 5."

Also, Luck is a thing, like in Demon's Souls. There's a string ( ) that gets the character's Luck stat for texts and everything. All characters actually do have a Luck stat defined - for all the PC starting classes, it's 10; for most of the NPCs, it's 1. This is not visible in my game, can't be leveled up, and (to my knowledge) does absolutely nothing. It's worth noting, though, that all the demo character builds up to April 2011 actually have different Luck stats that look to be balanced with the rest of the character's stats - this was evidently killed as a mechanic relatively late. All characters also have MP values, but this doesn't appear to have anything left in terms of the menus, so it's apparently something that was cut earlier.

Also also: the "we didn't plan to do Artorias of the Abyss as DLC" thing is a load of shit. Maybe it was intended for maingame and cut for time at some point - the massive piles of old models in the game would speak to that - but there are places in the magic parameters for the DLC spells. Which are specifically labeled [DLC] Whatever. (also, all the spells actually have an MP count defined. It's 0, but it's there. The more interesting thing is that they also have a Humanity value; the notion of magic that drains Humanity is weird, but kinda interesting. In terms of yet more systems inherited from Demon's Souls and then unused, it's possible for a spell to be multiplayer-only like Ressurection. Oh, and goods have defined weight.)

All talismans actually have something called EnableVowMagic set to true. This is a separate value from enabling miracles, so, uh. "Vow" refers to covenants, so I have exactly no idea how "vow magic" would work - unless the handful of covenant-tied miracles are a distinct school internally, which would be weird as hell. (Although I guess it wouldn't be that surprising for the Gravelord

Baseless conjecture: Manus is the Furtive Pygmy, that's pretty much canon at this point, right? There's also a placeholder description that speaks to a fifth Lord Soul? I'm guessing Manus was a Lord Soul boss before he got shunted off to future DLC.

If I can ever manage to pack a .bdt file I'd be curious as to whether spells can actually pull from the MP pool or not.

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
