Here are two pictures showcasing the earliest battle system I've seen so far. They came from Amazon.com FFXIII page, they have been there always among other pictures and videos of the game. I wonder if those bars were the Limit Break system they had to remove. The map looks like the one that appears on the PS2 cell shaded prototype shown on that JP magazine.

The HUD is a mockup, it was mostly random crap they pasted over an FMV, nothing working or nothing with deep thought.
You can grab a HQ HD video from here:

Thanks for that video! I've remembered having watched it on youtube long ago but I wasn't able to find it again. I have my doubts on the muckup being random crap at all. The map and enemies seem to be working (synced) and if you notice the circle bars at the upper right corner, they don't show anything but when Light is attacking in slow motion there is a timer running down, clearly showing it's her limit break. It even reminds me the Army of One of LR.

However the attacks seems to be just random senseless stuff. I think the way the map is shown and the limit break are the real early stuff there.

All the animations shown there are still present in the final game, that battle from start 'till the end is one nonstop animation, plus Square Enix confirmed it themselfs that it was a mockup. Now if it was simply portraying an idea they had, we won't know, but nothing you see is functional, it's an event with layers added on afterFX. On KHBBS you can still find/watch all those early TGS etc cutscenes with a cheat, I guess with some way you could do it with FFXIII too, like that Lightning on Sunleth Waterscape scene, animation is still there, not sure about the event file though.

Good job! I wish I could find somebody to help me hack those stuff in the game, I tried everything I could with my knowledge and a Debugger but it seems it's not enough.

Awesome translation. I'm puzzled about that curriculum term, it appears on a lot of function names, I think it's key on the 7th nature.

About the TGS animation, who knows if a event code of eden could trigger it, and Lightning in Sunleth, it's something I've did on one of the hacked saves that allow exploration of the Sunleth Waterscape Terminal. What I didn't was to put an event code of the Sunleth Waterscape at the beginning if Light have events there, maybe their codes are on the list too.

I might begin researching how the gui changes are stored in the save, by making a save on Archylte Steppe, get on a chocobo, save again and compare, to see if it's possible for example, to play with a chocobo and have all the gui changes in another area. Maybe the 7th have gui changes that needs to be activated in order to work, as for example, if I play with a character mounted on a chocobo in another area (my test was on Vile Peaks) and hit a monster the character will not move and you have to reset the game.

Hi, with the release of the PC version, I was wondering if there would be a way to get into the 7th Ark on that version? Save editing is out of the question at the moment, since I'm unable to decrypt the saves. Maybe using something like Cheat Engine to edit the values in real time?

Any pointers would be appreciated!

Hello KazukiMutou, I hope this can help you.

If the CheatEngine is able to edit the RAM of the game, then you should try to find in the RAM, as text string, the savepoint where you are. For example if you load a savegame in the Hanging Edge, your savepoint should begin with "s_point_hang". For more information on this and savepoint lists you can read previous posts.

There will be many entries around, but the one you need is the one that, if you look in the RAM a few offsets below, you will see nearby the $dummy string, there is only one of those "s_point_" strings around in the part you need, if you see many of them, then it isn't the one you need, those are savepoint lists. In the PS3 RAM this is located at 0x458F930. You must edit this value and change it to this one "s_point_eark_00".

Now this part is tricky, the game uses an integer to store a zone code, you should look for it in the offsets below until you find it, if your save is in Hanging Edge, the integer should be 00 00 00 10, these zone codes are in the previous post too. You must change this value to 00 00 00 69. On the PS3 RAM this value lies at 0x4590A1B.

There are around 4328 bytes between the two values.

Did it! Seventh Ark is still there!!!

Savegame:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/t0gsizgjq5dk0lu/ff13-01.dat

Exiting the Seventh Ark actually loads a version of Orphans Cradle with missing geometry, that's intresting change from PS3!

Also on a savegame, if you edit the savepoint string from s_point_(something) to rp_eark_ac002 and the area to 0x69 it will load something intresting from Seventh Ark, possibly a halfly correct way to trigger the event.

I've forgot, we need to open the door and see what happens if we trigger the press down then X events. So let's begin:

We have the $dummy string near the s_point_ string right? so counting from the byte after the 'y' character of that string, go 2410 bytes below.

If the hex view shows rows of 16 bytes each, the first byte we need to modify will be at position 0 in the row, the first one. Change it to 0xFF. That will trigger the Nemesis battle.

In the same row, the next byte is in the 7th position. Change it to 0xFF too. That will open the door and unlock the switches activation event, that will happen after the Nemesis battle.

Optionally, you can change the 6th byte to 0xFF, that will unlock a treasure. Playing with other values in this byte will make the treasure appear on other corners of the Berserker statue.

In the PS3 RAM these values are at offsets 45902E0, 45902E6 and 45902E7

Hello, I've been messing around bit for the past few hours trying to figure out ways to get to the other areas in the Seventh Ark.

I found the xyz offsets and started messing around with it. Sadly, it's pretty useless as the game doesn't let you go out of bounds by doing this. If there's a wall in the way, it'll just change the value to the nearest possible. So editing the xyz locations is pretty much a no-go, for me at least.

Teleporting back to Orphan's Cradle puts you into a geometry-less map because the event didn't trigger yet when you enter Orphan's Cradle for the first time. If you look below you, you can see where you would be spawning at had you taken the elevator from Edenhall in Chapter 12.

Moving forward triggers the cutscene of the two portals opening and also messes up the game. If you use the left portal to teleport back to Edenhall, then back to Orphan's Cradle, the two portals will be invisible. You can still access them but trying to teleport then freezes the game.

All of that can be remedied by hugging the left wall to avoid triggering the cutscene and going through the Edenhall portal, then back to Orphan's Cradle.
Interestingly, it seems that the exit point for the Seventh Ark is the Narthex portal.

Anyway, those are my findings for now. If someone wants me to test something out, I'm all ears. This is very interesting.

Awesome!, You did was I was going to try once I could download my copy.

I think there's a chance with the x, y and z values. Have you tried to somehow scale in the map, by guessing for example how much distance in the offset values are between for a point to another in the values.

Your first goal, maybe you have already made it, is to move you're character to another part of the same room, then see if you can get it back. You can then measure how much distance teleported from point 'a' to 'b' in the offset units. The objective would be to calculate what coordinate could put you right inside one of the unreachable areas. Maybe by giving in an actual location inside them could make the character bypass the walls and get in.

Other reason is, if the camera have their own x, y and z values and, if it is not warped, maybe that's what is not letting the character go.

There is one weird glitch I've stopped researching. I've called it the "party's leader change glitch". It can be made by padding a savegame, changing 00 values to FF in certain offsets. The party was Light, Hope and Sazh, other configuration didn't triggered it. I have to put Sazh as leader, close menu, open the menu again, put Hope as leader, close menu, open it again and put Light as leader, Light will get warped in the center of the Berserker statue, trespassing it, and the camera will go to where she is, trespassing any walls. So there must be a way to bypass the collision system or, you can actually warp her, giving in a coordinate inside a valid area in the map (that the game considers as playable and not off-limits).

About the Cradle, I've already played around and saw what happened to you. That behaviour is for using a save previous to the cradle's chapter and maybe one too early, as one I have from the first arrival at Grand Pulse would trigger the event where the portals get open and fix the layout. I've even researched further, trying to unlock the 7th gate, and found three bytes (or maybe an integer) that controlls the Cradle layout. I'd believe there might not be a chance to get the portal to go to the 7th, it might have just been overwritten with the Narthex warping code.

The Narthex maybe wasn't planned and, the 3rd portal it's the actual entrance to the 7th, The 7th portal looks like having been placed on the same height of the other portals, not having that little ramp that goes down.

EDIT: This is the full 7th map I've shown on an earlier post:

I've just tried moving from one point to another in the same room. As long as there's no object in your way, you can freely move on that axis.

However, whenever there's an object in your way (or even a party member), it'll restrict you from moving further on that axis.

Most I just managed to do is unload the geometry of the room where Nemesis' portal is in. But it still restricted my movements.

Could you post the addresses that are responsible for xyz, and yes I found out that FFXIII doesn't use dynamic allocation so the addresses will always be the same, for example:

1B8AA430 is the address of the savepoint string.
1B8AB518 is the address of the of the area value.
1B8A9818, 1B8A9830, 1B8A983C addresses manage the value of the leader character.
1B8A981C, 1B8A9834 are the addresses that are responsible for the second team member.
1B8A9820, 1B8A9838 are the addresses that are responsible for the third team member.

That way you can see what type of Paradigm temporary members and unused members (Serah) would be too.
Also the PC version seems to get back the area files of the removed areas, like test maps and Bodhum, but their filelist files that are needed to extract the files by us and the game code are not present anymore. Kinda luckily, the PS3 E3 Disc still contains some filelist files that will extract some of the contents of those areas, but not everything.
I was wondering if there would still be a way to extract the contents, withouth the filelist. If that's so we could write our own filelist files and inject them to the game's code and we could possibly have access to the removed Bodhum chapter.

XYZ addresses are constantly moving around on a save per save basis and map per map. So I can't really pinpoint it.

In any case, it seems to be after 18000000. I got the following 2 sets:

18AE8A90 (X) 18AE8A98 (Z) (Slot 2 - 7th Ark)
18AE8910 (X) 18AE88E8 (Z) (Slot 3 - 7th Ark)

Standing right in front of the save point in the 7th Ark gives me X0 Z4.

The most accurate way to find XYZ so far is to look for text string ".c201" It should be around the 3rd or 4th entry in the list.

EDIT: Added easier way to find XYZ.

What about trying to search for unknown changed values by triggering the switches activation event (by pressing down, then X after the Nemesis battle).

In that event the party's leader gets teleported to the beginning of the room, bypassing collisions so, your best shot is to begin the scan before pressing X, then scan just after the character appears on the beginning and before the event ends.

You should see if the x, y and z values changed and seek what other values changed that could be the collision deactivator.

BTW, if there is something you want to experiment with Bodhum, your best bet is to start a new game, reach the first savegame and freeze these values while saving a new savegame:

SAVEPOINT STRING: sp_chpt_vpek_02
AREA VALUE: 00000004

Then return to the intro menu and load that savegame.
Can you give me exactly the HEX values for xyz just the moment it loads the 7th Ark savegame?
I had no luck finding them.

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
