For those who don't know, Xentax is a site dedicated to reverse-engineering and decoding unknown game files, potentially cracking them open for us to explore. EDIT: This is more about decoding actual files formats than stuff like NES ROMs. (Examples in the audio files subforum, 3D model formats subforum, and compression formats subforum.) Usually you have to donate to get in, but to celebrate Xentax's 25th anniversary, forum registration is free to everyone. Also free for a short time is the program MultiEx Commander. Originally posted by "paraphrased from the manual" I've never used it myself, but it might be handy to quickly create file unpackers. (The program QuickBMS might be a viable alternative if you don't want future users of your script to rely on a paid program.) I'm not sure how long this'll last (someone said "indefinite"), but hey. I hope this doesn't count as advertising, I apologize if it does. Also I haven't been there in years, so I can't really comment on the state of the forums at this moment. |
