There are 16 beta versions of videos inside the file named z009_us.ps3.wmp for the original USA PlayStation 3 release of Final Fantasy XIII [MRTC00003]. The .wmp file type on the disc is nothing more than combined PlayStation Advanced Movie (.pam) files with a 10 byte (hex) header added.

The added header:

All the videos on the disc have 5.1 channel audio, except for the beta movies.
Of the 16 beta videos, two of them have no audio, and the rest are mono.
The spoken dialog is in Japanese instead of English.

Some of the differences between the beta videos and the final versions include:
All of the videos that have audio only play spoken dialog of the main characters, there are no background sounds etc.
Sometimes eyes are not fully animated yet, they may be closed, stuck fully open or do not blink.
Lots of times, the mouths are not yet animated while speech is being played.
Stiff hair and such that passes right thru the body.
General lack of detail, such as lighting.
Placeholder background characters.

Here are a few of the things I have noticed about each video (the included pictures are a small portion):
z009_us.ps3-01
This video has no audio track.
The video is only a small section of the completed video that's inside the file z017_us.ps3.wmp.
Three of the corners have extra info embedded, a date (2009-06-29), a frame counter and the text White CRS.

z009_us.ps3-02
There are placeholder background characters.

z009_us.ps3-03
Snow's bandana has the ends sticking out like helicopter blades.
Hair is stiff and passes right thru the clothes/bodies of the characters.
There is no mouth movement while speaking.

z009_us.ps3-04
There are placeholder background characters.

z009_us.ps3-05
There are placeholder background characters.
Just like how Snow's bandana ends stick out, the hat of one of the background character is doing the same thing.
There is no mouth movement while speaking.

z009_us.ps3-06
There are placeholder background characters.
There is no mouth movement while speaking.

z009_us.ps3-07
More of the stiff hair and helicopter blades on Snow's hat.
Snow's mouth does not move while speaking, but Serah's does.

z009_us.ps3-08
No mouth movement, and more stiff hair/objects.

z009_us.ps3-09
No mouth movement, and more stiff hair/objects.
Serah's eyes are shut while Lightning is speaking to her.
When Lightning opens her birthday present, she has the knife in her hand, places it in the box then picks it up.
There is no image displayed on the television while the special announcement is being played.

z009_us.ps3-10
There are placeholder background characters.

z009_us.ps3-11
The symbol on Dajh's hand is more detailed in the beta version of this video.
There is no smog in the video, yet Sazh still coughs and fans the air.
No mouth movement.

z009_us.ps3-12
No mouth movement, and more stiff hair/objects.

z009_us.ps3-13
This video and the first one are the more beta looking ones.
At the very start of the video, there are timed beeps.
The corners have very faint numbers displayed just like the first video.
There are placeholder firework explosions.
Snow and Serah have a very unfinished look, and both are missing their hair.
A very brief Japanese subtitle is displayed.
Placeholder background characters are shown during the flashbacks.

z009_us.ps3-14
This video has no audio track.
The two announcers have no mouth movement.

z009_us.ps3-15
More stiff hair/objects.
Vanille's mouth is animated, while Serah's is not (for most of the video).

z009_us.ps3-16
The audio does not seem to sync with the video, not sure if it's something to do with it being the very end of the beta file or not.
No mouth movement, and more stiff hair/objects.

This is great! I'm currently also working on digging unused/beta stuff Final Fantasy XIII (and more) from retail and non retail versions of the game and I've came across some pretty intresting stuff. I'll gather them all and I'll make a topic with all of them. It will be enough stuff to start up a page tcrf.net for the game. Also I'd like to hae somebody help me in it, I mean 41GB of data is sooo much to handle in one person, also there could be always something I'm missing.

Text you mean as the subtitles? I think they are stored inside the event folders. So far I haven't give a look into these, since I guess if there is something intresting, it will be in Japanese (so only in the Jap version of the game) and I don't know Japanese either. What I found so far are beta models (there is a reason I distinct beta from early), early models, unused enemies, dummy monsters/summons/playable characters, some different music than the final version of the game and some debugging stuff (not present in the retail versions of the game). I'm still doing my best to be sore I haven't missed anything, the amount of data in this game is immense to check it file by file by one person.
