A Castlevania Bloodlines proto for sale: http://www.ebay.fr/itm/251437847571 Came in contact with the owner from a topic under RHDN. He won't release a rom dump. He's putting it for sale though, and leaving this up to the next owner. The rom is dated 07-10-1993, Beta 0.5, internal header CASTLEVANIA CHRONICLES 09, region free, an earlier build of the US version (only the title, no bg or blood pouring, 1993 copyright) with unique stuff *No hard mode *Bugs and unimplemented collision for some platforms prevents completion (player drowns in 2-7) *Konami Code has a level select, only up to Stage 5-7, and a test Dracula battle (the dracula battle does not drop orbs though, and 5-7 leads to 1-1, making the ending inaccessible), are implemented. *Mostly different Stage 4 *Three tracks (NES remixes) very different from the more elaborate final version; only 27 *Heavy BG and enemy placement differences in many stages *Different sprites for lots of enemies, bosses, some items (no cross though), and Eric sprites (he becomes a partially decomposed pile of bones when he's dead), different palette (the green wheel in 1-7 is red originally) *No "standing in front of the gate" intro *No red text *No fade to black before Game Over appears ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thing is, I don't know what he meant by "repro" in the title.

"Repro" is short for reproduction. In other words, the ROM may be authentic, but the cartridge definitely isn't.

Interesting. Seems like it's already turned into a sort of community effort to release it. Anybody feel like chipping in?

A secure website system for this would be nice, but that might be a bit "high-profile", aka encourage lawsuits (etc). I am not saying that selling rare video games is illegal, but leaking them would almost definitely be against a companies' policy. ____________________ New Super Mario Bros Beta Replica

I recontacted him, and it seems he was banned from assemblergames. Collecting funds without asking for permission beforehand seems like a major offense over there. From what I understand, Simon_Belmont essentially sold him a reproduction for 2500$ (and kept the original for himself) and now that he couldn't make back his investment by selling the reproduction in eBay (since it's illegal in France, it was eBay who shut it down), he's now asking for 1500$ for a ROM release, but how things turned out was... unexpected, to say the least. Any solutions?

Is there some kind of fundraiser we could pull together here? I'm game for jumping in next paycheck if we can pool our resources together.

Simon_Belmont never sold him a reproduction, he only sold the ROM for $2500. That repro is something Jayfenwick's friend made for him. Just so that's cleared up. I'm the one heading the Contra fundraiser, I'm not sure how Assembler is allowing ours but it may have something to do with me not being a new user there, whereas Jayfenwick had only like 30 posts or so by the time he was banned. Plus the whole topic was only a couple sentences basically saying "I have the ROM, I want $1500 for its release," when most fundraiser topics usually are a bit more wordy with details so that the people reading can feel more assured. I feel bad for the guy spending so much but I don't know why he'd choose to just run away. Get a feeling we may have lost this proto, now. Simon_Belmont really shouldn't be selling ROMs unless it's a community effort where it goes public after being paid for. Just giving it to one person after having been burdened with such a huge price tag clearly doesn't work out well.

Apparently quite a few people on Castlevania Dungeon were not only skeptical, they were basically asking him to give it away. If I'd paid $2500 for something, yes it would be nice to have people help pay it back. I ended up paying 1.1 grand for both of the Splatterhouse betas that are now out in the public, and got no help back for that. So yes, if someone in contact with him can reach out to him I'd like to help, and given he gave the money back to the people that initially supported him that does indicate a sign of trust. Does paypal offer some means to pool money into a fund that, say, the webmaster here could deal with him directly once the quota's been met?

Just to sidestep all of this for a sec, I just want to point out this completely unreleased and unannounced Genesis proto was recently released. http://www.retrocollect.com/News/prototype-sega-mega-drive-game-frog-dude-rom-released-by-original-twilight-programmer.html Wonder if there's anything further hidden away in there besides the one stage.

Never heard of a C&D sent to that site. You're saying you know who bought it? Or you only know that the eBay bidder was a proxy agent? I can't work out how JP people obtaining a proto means they can send a C&D to a website. More details plz.
