It started to demonstrate how bad "PCSX" rendered with the current graphics settings. Look at those load times! Look at that lag!

All of this on a machine with a relatively good GPU and 4 GB of RAM! The other one with 6 GB of RAM but a very similar GPU gives much better results with better settings.

Why, PCSX?

also, why is this not in Computers / Technology? Well, this thread is too stupid to simply say it - checking the capabilities of hardware doesn't work like this at all

Anyway, this is what I mean when I say "this notebook is crap".

Extremely slow hard disk access is sometimes an indication of failure.

It might also mean you should defragment once in a while.

It could be a power-saving setting slowing things down.

Overheating, maybe from dust in the fans, will slow things down too.

Every time I check to do a manual defrag, it always shows the HD is 1% fragmented or less, so it looks pretty effective.

Then again, I'd need an external tool (HBCD) to defrag the "fixed files".

The only "fixed files" worth defragmenting are pagefile.sys and hiberfil.sys, and you can "defragment" them by disabling the paging file and hibernation, rebooting, and deleting them if they still exist. (Of course you should probably re-enable the paging file when you're done.)

I use a defragmenter that moves smaller files towards areas of the disk that can be accessed faster, but I have no idea how much it would change things.

You already checked for malware, so my only guess is that the cooling fan is clogged. I've seen many laptops so clogged full of dust that the only way to clean them involved disassembling them.

So, ever taken apart a laptop?

Okay, I might just give up as well.

About malware, well, there's not a serious antivirus (kill me for this, I only go to safe sites (ignoring completely going to "unsafe" sites is not the only way to get malware)). ZoneAlarm Firewall. The "work" PC has Kaspersky Internet Security, but that's another story...

Anyway, I find kind of funny that this was originally going to be a "serious" thread, but then it didn't (so it went here in IT), and then it returned "somewhat serious" again.

It almost makes me ask to move this thread to Computers / Technology.

If you're not willing or able to take it all the way apart, you could at least try using some canned "air" to clean it out. (Not to be confused with canned air.)

It may be wise to use some sort of antivirus, even if it's just one that runs in your browser. Plus, the free version of MBAM catches a lot of junk that a normal antivirus won't.

I also have MalwareBytes installed. It was installed way before ZoneAlarm.

I may try that.

I find it wierd although I use an external USB fan the PC is always quite hot. Well, that could have also been the reason why the monitor... argh I'm going off topic (implying I didn't go off topic before).

Small update, but I have tried the same graphics settings (except with an higher screen resolution) on a computer with almost the same specifications but 6 GB of RAM.

Except sometimes during a load between levels, it's perfectly fluid. No choppy framerate (the screen recorder only slightly affected the framerate, but it didn't record anything at the end , so no video ), fluid animation at 1280x1024 resolution.

My only guess is how much garbage software is installed on the other machine then. Considering I install way too much crap, that'd be going to be expected. :/

properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
