There's also the very good possibility that even if he does know, he wouldn't be allowed to say anything due to NDAs that prevent him from giving details of the hardware and software systems (sadly a very common thing).

I don't think there's much possibility of him not being able to speak about anything GameCube, in 2013.

He may have some documents, maybe. See Andy Gavin for example, but that's another story...

He actually said he would have to read the GC docs when he has time. I have all GC docs out from the SDK's so that shouldn't be a problem.

Great!

But still, for some reason I have a difficult time thinking how you could get him to read them. My brain is stupid.

I got his attention when mentioning there could be an earlier version of the GC SFA on the disc, he said he'd have to read through the GC docs. So when he has time I guess I would send them to him... as a zip file...? He was actually the one who mentioned it.

What about OBJECTS.bin by the way? Seems to be defining a lot of stuff for models like Tricky... THEORY: the points in the Tricky model that seem to be good in the model viewer are the ones that aren't animated(?), so maybe the points that are part of an animation are maxed out to the bounding box by default? Could be a reason why there's a definition of mix / max x, y, z in the first place...

I have yet to really look into OBJECTS.bin, so I'm not sure what it contains, besides the names of objects or somesuch. As for Tricky's horrible rendering, the extremely warped, nonsensical polygons should mainly be down to just improperly rendering the primitives because of the vertex format stuff (see previous posts). Even without a skeleton and animations loaded and used, the limbs should at least be recognizable as such, although they might just render at position 0,0,0 instead of being in a T-pose or whatever.

Also, as for something else... What has 64 bits and likes to spin?

The logo was already found, in the Model-swapping tutorial video.

It even has proper textures, there haven't been any other DP models though. (for yet, I hope)

(Koolaidman / moderator: please change the title of this topic from "E3 demo" to "Kiosk demo", as the booted game is not the E3 version, even though it's on the disc)

Neato. I've definitely never heard that track before. I'd definitely have to take a look into that a bit more. It's one of the more interesting things to come out of file swapping to say the least.

Remember that default.dol file from the kiosk disc I was talking about?
I made a tool that allows me to inject larger bootloader .dol files than the original into a GCM, and finally got it to work.... kinda.

Starting it in Dolphin gives a very good sign: debug outputs! Yay! It wants to load /audio/starfox.sam, /audio/starfox.sdi, etc. while even in the kiosk version only these exist: /audio/starfoxs.sam + /audio/starfoxm.sam, /audio/starfoxs.sdi + audio/starfoxm.sdi. The "m" and "s" are for "mono" and "stereo". This dates that this "E3" version is a much earlier version than even the kiosk version!!

I renamed the files to the ones it needs, and now I get this debug output:

After that it seems to go in an infinite loop. 0 FPS and high CPU usage.

Running it in Dolphin's Debug mode shows this:

Does anyone know what it's trying to do there?

from 80006cc0 to the part in question, here's what it does:
blr means branch on link register
r3 is a local register

MOVE FROM SPECIAL PURPOSE REGISTER HID0 -> r3
blr
MOVE FROM SPECIAL PURPOSE REGISTER L2CR -> r3
blr
MOVE TO SPECIAL PURPOSE REGISTER r3 -> L2CR
blr
MOVE TO SPECIAL PURPOSE REGISTER r3 -> DEC
blr
sc (0)(SYSTEM CALL INTERRUPT)
blr
sync (makes sure all previous instructions are completed before continuing)
nop
li r3, 0 (load immediate, aka "take this constant value known at compile time and store it in this register". when 0, it stores the value 0.)
nop
b (jumps to the first nop, making an endless loop of nothing but storing 0 in register 3)

that would be why there's a lot of CPU usage and not much happening then

Thanks for clearing that up! With "at compile time", do you mean when the program / game was booted, or when the executable was built? Could it be some kind of security check (as Rare is known for doing that in their E3 roms)? And of course, how would one disable the check?

compile time referring to when the compiler created the file. I'm not sure if it could be a security lock, as I'm not sure how it would be edited once on the disk and at the event, and why it would have changed back after the fact?

Just a wild guess, but could a dev device that would be attached to the GC change the value in the memory when it boots?

Another thing about the offsets at the bottom of the debug log:

It seems to be called an "EABI Stack Frame". There's information about it here:

https://www-01.ibm.com/chips/techlib/techlib.nsf/techdocs/852569B20050FF77852569970071B0D6/$file/eabi_app.pdf

This seems like serious processor-related stuff. Can anyone find out what the debug log is saying? The last offset doesn't seem valid to me, or at least I think something's wrong with it. Might it be related with the infinite loop?

Edit:
"The Back Chain Word contains the address of the previous frames Back Chain Word field,
thereby forming a linked-list of stack frames."
Does this mean the stack frame with back chain offset 0xffffffff is the first frame and it's going up instead of going down?

Edit 2:
The last (or first) stack frame seems to have a bigger difference between its own address and the previous stack frame. It has a size(?) of 90, while the other stack frames size(?) varies between 10 and 50. Might it be data overflow? Might it be caused by the infinite loop which keeps storing 0 in r3(?)?

Out of curiosity, is there any info on the image formats in TEX0.bin and TEX1.bin? I have the individual entries extracted and decompressed, and I can see what seems to the the image width, height, and format (possibly even a mipmap flag), and I can certainly tell there's images of some kind in there, but no matter what kind of pixel formats I use the images are a mess.

I'm not sure, seeing as Tex.bin had all of its images ripped, though I don't know if they're in the same format..

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
