Found an unused cursor in PSX bios!



I've owned a PSX for as long as I can remember, and I NEVER saw that.
It exists in both the PSone BIOS and PSX bioses with this cone cursor (Japanese PSX bioses have a crayon and don't have this icon)

I found it by playing around with savestates and that vram viewer program.

KoYoTae made made of those sprites when he cooked those characters up in mugen...I used to have the posts on RandomSelect but I think they're since long gone. Long story short the mugen versions of the characters have a lot of stuff that never appeared in the actual game.

Hmm...that sounds interesting. I'll try to investigate that.

A few things of interest with Mega Man V Game Boy.

Not only is there an unused SOUND setting that can be enabled which sets an 80 flag for Sound effect A type and 00 for the rest at the Title screen, but there is no Game Boy music at the title screen when enabled!

A full SGB SOUND table exists.

the SOUND command with 41808022 is loaded twice; second only immediately after the first command is issued. No idea why.

Yes, they were definitely fiddling with the idea to use SGB sounds, but for unknown reasons, they decided to forgo at an unknown time frame.

Investigating this further when I come back from dinner.

More Realtime Associates finds. I wouldn't be surprised if they hid a dev pic (or video) in their other games, too. I initially found these in the PS1 version (mentioned by Hybrid. The pics are from this version, as they are the same in both versions), and the Saturn version at a later date.

This guide (used Yabause 2541 at the time of writing. It's Tools -> Transfer in 0.9.12. A savestate helps too.) and figured out that the cheat codes spell an actual word (search for them in a memory dump or the image file (didn't try)).

For Iron Man / X-O Manowar in Heavy Metal:
I found the Saturn button locations, by locating a label closest to the memory locations of the button cheats, in the PS1 version first. That label was "\GFLOW\GFLOW0.WDL". So, I searched for the following text in a Saturn memory dump via PS2DIS (): GFLOW0.WDL (I got two hits and noted them). After that, I analyzed the data in that area of memory for the PS1 version. The standout values were the range of addresses, where the values incremented by 1 (00 - 1F; 80062490 - 8006250C), and the terminator value for the button cheats (FFFFFFFF). So, I took the chance and searched for "00000000010000000200000003000000" first. I got a good match. Then, I searched for "FFFFFFFF", and found the button cheats, based on the results of both searches.

Poked at little at PC Billy Hatcher. Still has references like 50/60hz and Gamecube-GBA linkup.
There are unused Japanese text files (helpfully with _j in their name), plus its inis suggest support was considered.

Apparently in the 2012 rerelease of FFVII, near the end of the game in the final cave is a savepoint. The text for this area has been changed to reference one of the Diablo games. Does anyone know if this reference also existed in the previous PC port, of which the 2012 release is largely a reissuing?

I think the Lufia II page should get a small update in regards to Erim's unused giant sprites. One frame of giant Erim facing left, is actually used at the end of the game. Its in the scene immediately after defeating Daos, where the four Sinistrals show up and combine their power. I guess it was used in place of the human sized version so she wouldn't look weird next to the other Sinistrals. Makes me wonder why they didn't just use her giant sprite in the first place.
