Anyone here know about gardening? I sure as fuck don't.
I went in to my back yard and it was overrun with these... pink flowering plants. I don't think they are weeds... but they were everywhere and they shouldn't be. They were actually quite pretty but they overran the stuff that my landlord planted!
Actually, now I've pulled them out I can't tell what other stuff is also a weed. And I can't get them out of the ground either, some of them.
Some stuff is easy, like thistles. I know thistles are weeds! I'm smrt. The rest of it is a bloomin' mystery to me.
I want to get my garden nice so I can have people over for a barbecue some time
But god I fail at gardening... anyone garden? ____________________ |

The definition of weed is simple: Any plant which you do not want in your garden.
Usually applies to invasive things. There's plenty of pink flowers which could be that way, depending on what climate your garden is in.
Generally I suggest picking out the roots using a gardening fork (a gigantic fork with four tines and all--sort of like a trident) by stabbing the ground where they are and sliding it backwards like a lever to reveal all the roots. Then you can be sure whatever it is doesn't come back.

Just be happy you have a garden.
Brown dying stuff is the colour of my backyard. And front yard. And some of the side. To be fair, before the years of drought we've been having the garden was mostly ferns my dad planted. ;

 | | I know absolutely nothing about gardening, except for pulling weeds, which I did in my grandparents' vineyard once. It make it easier when you're pulling anything other than grapevines

And if you have any plants like tomatoes, cover them in netting, etc... not to mention carefully water the plants you have. Building canals around them to catch water is a good thing to do.

Originally posted by Tarale Well, I am sort of happy I have a garden—my old place had nothing but concrete. But my problem is that I don't know what to DO with the garden. I've never really done much gardening before.
The landlord planted some stuff just before I moved in. I think they're fairly hardy little plants, they don't seem to need much water (which is good), but I'm not real good with the rest of things, like weeding, and pruning and all of that.
I guess I'll work it out. At the moment it is looking a lot better now I pulled a bunch of stuff out.
There are lots of books of gardening. Just stop by a bookstore or a library with a large collection of gardening books and just look through what you need to do. Gardening isn't an innate thing to many people. It is an acquired skill. I'm sure if you edumacate yourself, you will learn gardening to the point where you can get something to grow for some period of time |
