RNG Seeding Glitch (E)
What glitch is this? I haven't heard of it before, but I always felt like ever since generation 3, Pokémon games have had fairly poor RNG. (3 was definitely much worse than the others, but it still seems a bit off in later versions.) It seems to get stuck in cycles, where you'll get the same encounter many times in a row, or miss 7 times in a row, etc.
What's supposed to happen is that when you start the game in the Generation 3 games, the frame counter is supposed to be used to seed the RNG. Instead, in Emerald the initial RNG seed is always zero. As such it has an incredibly easily exploitable RNG to be used and was noted even by people not savvy with RNG understanding that it was giving them the same pokemon all the time.
I always thought something like that was going on when I played Ruby. I assume if Emerald has that bug, Ruby/Sapphire do too...
Does Black/White Pokédex not have a search function? That's a pretty basic feature that's been around since G/S.
Also, amusing thing that happened:
- Unfeazant and Servine in a double battle
- Unfeazant chooses Air Cutter or something
- Servine chooses Leaf Tornado
- Unfeazant goes first, opponent is KO'd, both receive EXP
- Servine levels up
- Servine learns Leaf Blade, replacing Leaf Tornado
- Servine uses Leaf Tornado anyway
The game seemed to handle it just fine. No PP used, no strange effects. Which is a little surprising after all the edge case bugs in previous games.
