So I guess I will see when the games comes out, but I'm not holding my breath.

Exp. gain is static once again. I found this out trying to level up some freshly-bred Eevee and found the level 1s were getting the same Exp. as the things I was fighting with. Couple this with the lack of rustling grass (and the Audino often contained therein) and it's once again a tedious endeavor to level up a lowbie Pokémon.

That's really disappointing!

I thought the dynamic EXP was the best feature in Gen V simply because it meant that keeping a well balanced 6 poke team was not tedious.

It was an interesting change, and did spice things up, but after playing White 2 for a bit, I now realize how ridiculous it can be in certain cases. In one battle, my Pokemon was a few levels below the other Trainer's Pokemon. When I defeated it, I got enough experience to level me up two levels higher than the opponent I just defeated.

It made sense in some aspects, and definitely helped your team adapt quickly, but it also sort of took a chunk out of the concept of training. Show a newly-caught weak Pokemon to something twice its level, and suddenly it learns 2-3 moves, maybe even evolve.

That's the thing I liked best about it though! The game was self correcting. If you're hideously underlevelled, you'll spring your levels up to the 'correct' level in the extremely short term, it discouraged grinding to way overlevel and basically meant that for the first time ever, they were free to have regular level jumps in enemy trainers and it wouldn't mean hours of grinding if you'd somehow maladjusted your team's exp pool.

Essentially I'm sad it's gone because Generation V was the very first time since infinite rare candies in Red/Blue where grinding was never necessary for the already grind-heavy Pokemon series.

If I may chime in here, the revised EXP Share has been /severely/ buffed, to the point where it's now a Key Item... Grinding as it was in previous games seems like it will be a thing of the past, except if you turn the EXP Share off for some reason... Keep in mind though, the level progression of trainers and gyms (and the League Championship) has also been increased to keep in check with it.

I turned it off after two battles because it was irritating me. Does it split the Exp. evenly among the party, or does it actually grant more total Exp. than having it off? I imagine it's identical to the Generation I version, but I honestly can't say for sure.

On another note, I'm pleased to report that X/Y follows in Generation V's footsteps in that it gives you a free Lucky Egg in one of the towns. I was able to rapidly level a new Flareon and Jolteon up to the level of the rest of my team in fairly short order.

When the EXP Share is on, the pokemon in a battle get the same XP as if they were the only pokemon in the battle, and non-battling pokemon each get half of what they would had they been the only pokemon in the battle.

Well that was unexpected. I ran some trials to test the Exp. Share and found that the Exp. system was changed in a more general sense...

Level 27 Dugtrio - Off - 1 Pokémon = 547 Exp.
Level 28 Dugtrio - Off - 1 Pokémon = 568 Exp.
Level 28 Dugtrio - Off - 6 Pokémon = 568 Exp. each, 852 Lucky Egg
Level 27 Trapinch - Off - 1 Pokémon = 223 Exp.
Level 27 Trapinch - Off - 2 Pokémon = 223 Exp. each
Level 28 Trapinch - Off - 1 Pokémon = 232 Exp.
Level 28 Trapinch - Off - 2 Pokémon = 232 Exp. each
Level 26 Gible - On - 1 Pokémon = 222 Exp. battled, uh... it didn't say how much the others got. *Writes down numbers*
Level 28 Trapinch - On - 1 Pokémon = 232 Exp battled, 116 each shared, 174 Lucky Egg
Level 27 Trapinch - On - 2 Pokémon = 223 Exp. each battled, 111 each shared, 166 Lucky Egg

In other words, Exp. now works like this:

• Relative level has no effect on the amount of Exp. received for a defeat
• All Pokémon who participate in a battle gain full Exp. for the opposing Pokémon's defeat
• All Pokémon who did not participate receive half the Exp. for the opposing Pokémon's defeat via Exp. Share
• Lucky Egg's 1.5x multiplier occurs after integer truncation of the Exp. Share calculation

So what this means is that all this time, having turned off the "irritating" Exp. Share, it turns out I wasn't actually distributing my Exp. across all party members like in Generation I. I've instead been wasting untold amounts of Exp.

EDIT:
It occurs to me that if you can come across six Lucky Eggs, you can really rack up the Exp. across your whole team.

Problem is that the reverse is also true, even if you're struggling after having beaten all the trainers and can't fight a gym leader with pokemons that are on par with what the game wants it turns into an even more large grind feast as you have to get EXP from killing low level wilds that give nothing since EXP in those games scale down if you're above them in levels.

The EXP system in B&W was horrible even for a dynamic one, and that's not even touching on the fact that post game has a large bump up in trainer levels right away so you struggle as soon as you get into it.

I think it's great to encourage leveling up low levels and catching new pokemons as it's with the spirit of the games, but the system in place in B&W was simply horrid as far as I'm concerned since it sacrifices too much in trying to achieve that, yet still struggles on the finish line.

Yeah, the EXP system is nice when you're a lower level, but reach one of several points where you've beaten all the nearby trainers but the next gym's level is much higher than theirs, and you're back to a grindfest again, that now takes even longer because of the low wild Pokemons' levels...

For a while it seemed like the trend was to add more and more annoying alarms (adding them to Mario games even). Hopefully they'll continue to turn that around.

Once you reach Nimbasa city that's never an issue - the game gives you 10-20 trainers per day, with the level scaled to how many badges you have/if you've defeated the elite four. Then there's the rebattleable stuff post-E4 when the biggest level jumps are (Cynthia, Undella Town, etc.) so there's no situation where you should actually be running out of trainers to fight.

There is before you reach the point in game of nimbasa city, and that covers at least three gyms. And frankly, going back to the same city every day to grind EXP on trainers there is not a very good mechanic either.

This could simply have been avoided if the developers had the brains to look over and balanced the EXP gain. They could possibly have solved it simply by having more optional areas available or something else. An RPG is always going to be grindy to some degree, it's hard to get away from, the problem is that it needs to be fun for the player.

I don't even have Pokemon X or Y yet but I thought it would be wise to inform you guys who do have the game(s) that, according to IGN, there is a GAME BREAKING BUG. It is apparently triggered by saving in Lumiose City and it looks like your save file is completely bricked resulting in you having to start from scratch. Not sure how far in the game that city is but be aware. If any of you have the digital version of the game then it might not be a bad idea to use that save backup feature, that way if your save file does get bricked, you can just load the backup and not have to start from scratch. I mean, if this glitch happens in one city, what is to stop it from happening in other places?

I'm guessing that Nintendo will release a patch for the game at some point via the eshop but, at the moment, Nintendo has yet to acknowledge the bug.

...Also, is it me or are games having more game breaking bugs lately???....

Hahaha.... good one.

Perhaps you are a person who can be super concentrated when studying for midterms and playing games but for me, starting a brand new game during the semester is like opening pandora's box and that box doesn't shut easily once opened.

Limit as → more games = :specialed:

So, the wait for a solution took less than one day. Good.

I'm still counting how much time it will take for an official "fix" to be made.

Its nice that someone found some sort of solution to this glitch. At least there is a way out but, in my opinion, it is fucking ridiculous that the game has barely been out for 4 days and there is already some huge glitch in the game. First SS and then this. Come on Nintendo, get your act together. There is nothing worse than pouring time into a game just to have it taken away by some unforeseen flaw. Worrying about these stupid glitches takes some of the fun out of the gameplay in the best case and in the worst case they make you stop playing the game.

Do remember we're talking about the developers that gave us Red/Blue: One of the buggiest games of all time where the number of programming glitches accessible to the player number in the hundreds (to thousands?). Every generation of Pokemon has had some really dumb glitches/oversight/flaw that messes something up. When a game is as popular as pokemon with millions of eyeballs on it, they'll just be discovered faster.

See:
The Laundry List that is RBY
Celebi Egg Glitch (GSC)
Berry Glitch (RS)
Thunderbolt Sound Glitch (FrLg)
RNG Seeding Glitch (E)
Pomeg Berry Glitch (E)
Surf outside the Walls (DP)
Ditto Glitch (DP)
Sky Drop Glitch (BW/BW2) - I'd like to note this one is special because Nintendo themselves had to ban this move from their tournaments.

There's more, but to say that Game Freak are a paragon of programming excellence without a history of game-breaking or dangerous bugs in their games is definitely not true. They're basically the Bethesda of Nintendo consoles.

You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
