| I made this topic because, well, there is a lot of interesting crap hidden in these games. Interesting/unused stuff in Windows Ultimate Extras games and Microsoft's Windows 8 games (like Solitaire Collection, Taptiles, etc.) are also welcome here. Mine 2.9 (Minesweeper prototype): In addition to some graphics and menus being different, there is this icon: ![]() Can anyone confirm if this is an original icon, or just one from an early Windows SDK? Minesweeper: Pressing Esc+Down will stop the timer. It will start again when the game is minimized and maximized. Also, in the source code, the mines are referred to as bombs. This is because in prototypes of the game (like Mine 2.9), there were bombs instead of mines. Rattler Race: In the NT 4 source code, the icon is completely different, although way more accurate. ![]() Windows Entertainment Packs 1-4: Bizzarly, the first three WEPs have this unused icon of Yosemite Sam in WEPUTIL.DLL: ![]() In WEP4's WEP4UTIL.DLL, Sam is replaced by a more generic icon: ![]() A few WEP games: In the leaked NT 4 source code, which includes the source code for several WEP games, a few games have code for unused error messages (example also from Minesweeper). Interestingly, it seems to contain text for a trial version, although to my knowledge, no such trial version exists. Also, almost all of sound.c (used in several WEP games, example is from Minesweeper) is commented out. rtns.h/main.h (example from TicTactics, the statuses will be in either rtns or main, depending on the game) mentions five game statuses: Play, Pause, Panic, Iconic and Demo. I'm fairly certain that only the first two are used. |
