I got an email that the papers I need to apply for the visa are in the mail and should be here by Wednesday or Thursday. Now I'm gonna go get a passport picture taken tomorrow for the visa, and fill out some forms so I can mail my visa application the instant I get those papers!

My partner deals with a lot of anxiety issues but music seems to help her so I gave her my iPod. And since then, the only time I've really had the opportunity to enjoy my own music privately is when she's out and I'm not (which is like never).

It's weird living in a state of pure ambient noise at home, but not necessarily unpleasant, I think. I'm not really sure, to be honest. Why do people listen to music? I can't decide if this is how we were before mp3 players, CD players or the Walkman existed or what. I like that I can walk down the street and say hi to a stranger and that I'm aware of what's going on around me but music is also so sweet and pleasant. It's soothing, like painkillers but without a prescription and way easier access.

Sometimes I wonder if culturally we have a form of addiction to music because we love the stimulation so much.

Either way, I'm not going to be in "rehab" forever. I plan on getting an iPod again soon, but this time it's going to be an older one with a black and white display and typefaced in Chicago.



I'm going to get it in 20GB because it's cheaper and I figure if I've gone without music for so long I probably shouldn't feel picky about the capacity. It's not like I need every mp3 I own on my iPod, anyway. I'll keep with me only the music I cherish the absolute most, like Funeral by Arcade Fire. And if that's not enough, upgrades are so easy to get! Like, no one gives a darn about 1.8" IDE hard drives these days, so they sell for like $20 a piece.

For that, maybe I'll have to wait until Christmas. Last Christmas, I got myself a Game Boy Pocket and partied like it was '96. This time I'll party like it's 2004.

I actually can't stand not being aware of what's going on around me. That's why I only ever use one headphone when I listen to music, even if I'm alone at home. If I use headphones at all. Otherwise I'll just blast it silently through my shitty speakers.

Yes, I can't appreciate stereo.

That's cool and now that you've mentioned it, I'm pretty sure that's how I get by, although I imagine the melodies and the harmonies since they're both pretty important to me.

It really depends, though. I used to listen almost exclusively to instrumental music but then I started listening to music with lyrics and I found that sometimes phrases really affected me (like, lately I've been thinking about “you roared into the driveway of our / southwestern ranch-style house” a lot, mostly because I like how he says it) and I'd have to experience them several times.

One thing that occurred to me at some point was that music wasn't just about melodies and harmonies and chord progressions—those were the bones—but it was also about soundscapes and textures, and lyrics are an entirely different dimension that also added to the texture both emotionally and aurally.

I hope this makes sense. It's like 1AM and I just spent a very long day exploring the town Twin Peaks was filmed in.



Anyway, now it's time for me to find headphones for my iPod. Any suggestions?

Music to me is quite easily one of the most important aspects of life. There's not a single day I can recall that I didn't get my phone out and load my music from my computer and just play through my bluetooth headset. I typically listen to game related tracks because I just escape into a random world; sometimes I even have adventures of sorts. I sort of look silly at times and when I look up to see my dad just watching it is almost embarrassing.

In any case, one of the more likely genres of game tracks that are in my player list is RPG or adventure types. From time to time I also mix it up a bit. There can be all sorts of music honestly, just depends on the mood. My dad is also part of a band of sorts and knows quite a few of the members of some rock/metal bands too.

Needless to say music is natural to this family.

It is funny that I can literally go 30 minutes out of the way to test a place that has Google Fiber. Our city is on the list to be *eventually* done.

Whether or not i'm actually listening to music or not, there's always some song bouncing around in my skull, occupying one of my many focuses. When I listen to music, that song dies down and that focus shifts to the song i'm listening to, but when music time's over, it pops back to some random song. I also play guitar, which doesn't help much x3

Haha, sadly I am stuck mostly at home attacking wild chairs and trees while playing battle music. Those damned things sneak up on you for massive damage of 1 point (luckily I have an evasion bonus to chairs)! I would have shown a certain stupid chair who's got more attack power and health, except it randomly gave up before I could gain -42 exp because it is a chair. And that's its only battle ability besides its preemptive attack on people not paying attention.

One of these days though I'd like to go dress up as some hero, play music fitting each theme, and go on a real adventure; possibly with other people to make it more fun. Exactly what adventure doing what, who knows? Oh the hilarity and possible embarrassment that would ensue. The only problem with this is that I'd have to go somewhere far away because there's nowhere decent to do such a thing, besides my college.


Needless to say, my imagination never died down and I still like to just do silly things like that from time to time. Of course, I usually do my music listening and monster slaying alone since I want to perfectly escape instead of wondering what people might be thinking.
