Hey guys, remember this, the unreleased Mega Drive port of the SNES game Time Trax that has new music by Tim Follin? Well some guys over at SegaAge managed to get the development files and provide a ROM at last, and yes it has the music intact! It also seems to be an unmodified ROM (from what I can tell by looking at the binary and starting the game). BIIIIIIIIIIIIG kudos to them for this, and I'll be sure to check out that (custom) sound driver! =P

A few months ago, Foxhack got his hands on a prototype of Madden NFL 99 for the N64 and loaned it to our Joe to dump. He says he released the ROM somewhere but can't find where; I've had the ROM ready to mirror for a while, so now that I have the Lufia 2 and Metroid GBA protos mirrored I'll also do the same (especially since they were given the OK to releae the cart).

Maybe this has been previously discussed, but....

A while back, a dude uploaded several Neo Geo Pocket Color protos he had to the internet, and they ended up on various rom sites. I'm pretty sure I glanced at a few and didn't notice any immediate differences, but I'm also pretty sure I was distracted early on.

Just last night, something occurred to me that I should have thought of before (and which somebody else has probably already thought of) - roughly five years ago, some emulator developers stumbled across what appeared to be a "debug button" that would have presumably been accessed via a devkit. If I recall correctly, this feature was never implemented in any public emulator releases because what was discovered by the time of that post was all that was ever found (or something).

But, I realized, that was before any prototypes had turned up. So my questions are these:

1. Does anyone know of any examination, extensive or otherwise, of these prototypes?
2. Does anyone know of any emulators that implement the "D button"?
3. Is anyone aware of any attempts to test that button on the protos?

I'm assuming the answers to all three are "no", but I figured I'd check in with you guys before I started poking around on Neo-Geo focused forums.

FWIW, there is an almost 100% chance that cart contains the final ROM and isn't worth a lot more than the plastic it's encased in

Just found out that 007: Agent under Fire had a Prerelease version. Notable Differences seen in the Youtube video is the GoldenEye style Health/Armor Bars and R's Appearance (Looks Younger). If you manage to get your hands on it i'd love to give it a more thorough comparison to the retail version.

1. Nope
2. Not until now. Here's a quick modification of MESS to map the "debug" button to D on your keyboard
3. Tried briefly on the Bubble Bobble proto, but nothing. Then again, that was a quick "start game, test button" test, nothing extensive.

That exact same Dragon Warrior cart has been floating around eBay for a while now. Being a US localization prototype, it probably doesn't have many significant differences (not enough to justify the price, anyway).

Yep. It's encased in a "polybag" , but that's to be expected for anyone who uses that Video Game Authority rating system to see how good a prototype looks (a Zelda 'prototype' discovered a while back came with a mear-mint boxed copy of the retail game encased like this EB proto too). It outright says on the cartridge that's a final version too.

It's sealed inside a dumb plastic brick (or sometimes a thin plastic box), similarly to some older comics and trading cards are. Then they stuck that plastic brick inside a plastic baggie. But still. You can't get to the game easily, if at all, and if you do want to remove it from that worthless plastic jail, it might damage the game itself.

It's beyond stupid.

I'm wondering, how many of the Gamecube Interactive Multi-Game Demo Disc demos have actually been looked into. I can't even find a single list of all the games on them. I have ISOs of all of them, and if anyone wants a list of what demos there are, or any demos, I would be happy to upload them for you

Also, I decided to compile a 32bit build of Dolphin with 128mb of RAM so the Metroid Prime 3: Corruption prototype can be played on it. Having a more recent build should fix most emulation issues that there previously were, and also run at a higher framerate.
