	Definitely agreed there. I'd like to keep the look of mine close as I can, with less code bloat. Lacking HTML knowledge doesn't help at all. Way too many lines to achieve its intended visual style. ____________________

The best way to learn is by taking apart somebody else's layout who does it right. For example, mine could be converted into something like yours with minimal effort. You just need to experiment a bit and not be afraid to search for HTML tag help.

Simple solution. Don't use a layout. I used to make layouts, but I am far too lazy these days.

Need some motivation? Make a layout that isn't autogeneratedbullshit, or else you won't have layouts much longer. None of us want that right?

Mine would be smaller if I imported my css, and not just dumped it in a style tag. At least this way however, if the external server dies, it will still be there.

That kind of layout doesn't even look like it needs a style tag.

yours wasn't that bad, but could've been done much easier. just look at BMF's old layout for inspiration in that aspect, really.

Just to see by myself how bad the layout maker's code was, I took DT's layout (before he removed it) and tried to shrink the code as much as I could without breaking it ...

- Header: 3799 -> 882
- Signature: 289 -> 176
- Total: 4088 -> 1058 (25.9%)

Almost 4x smaller, and that's without using an external .css file

Just some examples of how bad it was:

border-top-style: Dashed;border-left-style: Dashed;border-right-style: Dashed;border-bottom-style: Dashed;border-top-color: rgb(255,255,255);border-left-color: rgb(255,255,255);border-right-color: rgb(255,255,255);border-bottom-color: rgb(255,255,255);border-top-width: 3;border-left-width: 3;border-right-width: 3;border-bottom-width: 3;

change to

border:dashed 3px #fff

This layout began as a creation of ye olde layout maker. I eventually recoded it myself at some point, and it's been slowly changing ever since.

I never really realized how messy the layout maker's output was until I compared my handmade one to the layout maker's version.

Quotes I can agree with, but links? On his layout? I dunno what crazy color scheme you use, but Night's links would be a bit hard to see there... any formatting for them beyond a custom color, I can agree is a bit much.

Would that be the biggest ones or the Layout Maker ones? Because size doesn't mean much when you can link to external stylesheets. The majority of mine is CSS, so that would shrink mine quite a bit, but load time could suffer.
