I heard that ISOs don't work on most of the PS3 out there...

You don't need to have the system to open an iso and screw around with it.

I don't own a 360 or PS3 but I was still able to open the isos and see the files inside.

I found the entire soundtrack for Mario no Super Picross inside Zenkoku Juudan Ultra Shinri Game. Just simply use these codes:

C08950A9
C08951xx
C0895ACE

The game will crash after the Visit logo, but that doesn't mean you can't record them. That's why we have SPC dumps.

Shinri Game 3 has the entire Mario no Super Picross soundtrack dummied out though there is still a bunch of odds and ends code still in the game. Very unusual.

Yeah, but somehow, I need to distinguish anything that doesn't look unused at the first glance...
...at least, I know the full cast of characters...
...however, someone already ripped almost all the sprites of that game, and he found this curiousity:

KOF actualy had Saiki's face in the index code, though you don't see a face normally...

This isn't anything major, but I thought it was worth sharing. On Giant Bomb's weekly Thursday Night Throwdown live show, they went through the library of the CEO of Iron Galaxy Studios from when he was a lowly N64 game programmer. There were a bunch of tall debug cartridges there (don't get excited, most of them were just close-to-retail from repeated TCR failures) and this was on one labelled with something to the effect of "DO NOT REMOVE FROM TESTING EVER"

The host of the show half-jokingly (he has the equipment) offered to dump a ROM on the spot, but he knew better than to answer in front of a camera. So, uh, yeah. Maybe it'll float onto the internet one day? Don't hold your breath. But its nice to have a peek at, no?

He did mention that he hid easter eggs in NHL Breakaway '98 on the N64 - apparently a bunch of slideshows of the programmers to fill leftover ROM space - but he can't remember how to find it. The string "DAVES CHEATS" can be found at 00BA3B80, but beyond that folks are still trying to disassemble it enough to find it. They actively called for us to find it! So, uh, if you feel like trying to find slideshows of Dave Lang chugging beers in college or Tom Carbone doing something vaguely more reputable...

Interesting. I'm not sure if these pictures would be in .jpeg files or something similar. I'll have to look through that with extraction tools, when I'm done with my busy schedule. Something similar was done with Elmo in Grouchland and I wouldn't be surprised if there were more hidden dev pictures in games.

There's a few GBA games that have hidden pictures: Road Rash Jailbreak, Spirits & Spells, and Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance, to name a few.

All 4 GBC Konami Collections retain all of the SGB code from the GB versions, however, they are completely unused!

it's me i'm a guy that called for it

But yeah Dave Lang said there's two codes for Breakaway '98 that can be entered on the press start screen, one for him and one for Carbone and they both forgot both of them. Someone please make my dream of seeing a dumb Dave Lang slideshow (and whatever the hell Carbone's is) a reality.

So, I recently got a version 1 US Twilight Princess disc (Wii) so I could fix a file, cheat, etc. Anyway, I was playing with cheats on a file created by the "Back in Time" or otherwise known as the Title Screen Control Glitch. So anyway, I was at a point where the Eldin province connects with whichever one Castle Town is in, and I found Illia's bag. I was playing as regular Link, so I was curious of what I could do with it, so I walked up to it and it told me I could pick it up. Now, here's where things get odd, when I picked it up, it didn't rotate to match the angle of Link's hand, it stayed at the same exact angle the whole time, plus it was pushing me to Link's left side, making it hard to manually move. Now, you can throw it too, it acts like small pieces of a cut up sign. What I'd like to know is, why can you pick it up? And especially, why do you get pushed to the left while holding it?

Bebe's Kids also has secret pictures, and I was able to find the corresponding cheat to activate them (I call this cheat Team Gaijin Mode based off of the pictures):

At the Paramount Pictures logo, press Up, Down, X, R, A, Y, B, A, B, Y. For each button you press correctly, you will get more time at the logo to enter the rest of the code. If you enter all of it correctly, then the game will immediately start. The graphics affects the Title Screen, character selection screen, and ending. In the case of the ending, you lose the credits altogether and instead get a Team Gaijin logo (which I believe is the same one found on the Title Screen if you wait).

This also unlocks some in-game cheats. Just simply hold Select and press the following keys on the d-pad for the following effect:
Left ~ Clears all enemies. This works on the final boss, but it doesn't allow you to beat the game that way.
Down ~ Goes back a room. This isn't bug free: graphical glitches can occur, and the music can get temporarily muted. Going before the first room results in an instant Game Over and the cheat will be rendered null and void.
Up ~ Goes up a room. This isn't bug free: graphical glitches can occur, and the music can get temporarily muted. There are three rooms past the final boss (they are graphically glitched), and going past those three will make the game play the second level cutscene. The game then loops back to level 2.

The FDS game "Hao-Kun no Fushigi na Tabi" has a known hidden menu, shown after inputting 2 of the developers names:

I believe there's another menu to be found using the same method.
This is the text from a hex editor:

[CODE]

SPECIAL FUNCTION!..@
HIGH SCORE RECORD CLEAR!..@

Here are the developer names from the hex editor if it's any help:

Gift GBC has a tons of windows strings and a reference to a C64 emulator? Is this the entire game's source and development cycle?

The NHL Breakaway '98 easter egg has been found! Sort of.

Use the cheat code 8013CEBF 0038 and select any menu option.

Apparently, when you have 99 stars, Toad won't allow you to buy more.

But... how the heck can you even get 99 stars in one game? The most I've gotten is 12 or so... and I've played this game a lot. Is it even possible?

I got Back to the Future: The Game via the current Indie Royale. Of course I couldn't resist peeking around the game files, and I've found quite a bunch of unused things in Episode 1 of the series, including leftover newspaper vending machine graphics from one of the Sam and Max seasons (I'm not sure which one, but there's six, which means the all come from one six-episode season in particular), an unused inventory graphic for a Tommy Gun (which you never find)... and TONS of unused audio files that reference bits of story and a couple of puzzles that were left out of the final game. (These puzzles involve Marmalade. Marmalade? Yes, marmalade. And peanuts. Long story.)

Plus there's a message from Marty to the devs saying something about giving the audio guys some slack and not overwork them, some alternate takes, and unused stuff. And a really, REALLY creepy bit involving the Statler-DeSoto dealership that likely got cut off because it was in very poor taste.

There's also an interesting bug with Episode 2. In Episode 1, you choose an alias from a list of names, and the later games remember your choice, so everyone refers to you by that name. EXCEPT for one place at the start of Episode 2 - you get called by the default name, not the name you chose. Apparently, earlier builds of the episodes didn't remember your name, but later builds fixed this. I only stumbled upon this particular one so they may have forgotten to fix it. Then again the game still has quite a few issues that were never fixed, even now.

Anyway the episode does have the voice and written lines that never play due to the bug. I have to double check this to be sure.

I haven't finished the series (I just started Ep. 4) so I haven't looked at the rest of the episodes yet but it appears that there isn't that much unused stuff in them.

I will, but I'd rather wait until I have enough material to make one.

It's not like I have enough on my plate already, what with Bad Boys, Ghostbusters, and a bunch of other games I want to write about...

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
