Yeah, I had an interesting problem when I tried to use opacity for mine. It kept coming out like this about 90% of the time you loaded the page. The other 10% it looked fine.

Also, if your posts are in a translucent container, any images within it will also be translucent, which looks odd.

I don't think so. If your container is 70% opaque then it'll interpret that as 100% of 70%.

Because shittastic IE won't render it correctly. Apparently some people care. You can default to a dithered GIF, but it's hard to get the effect with those without making it unreadable.

The only layouts I had trouble with in the past were Hydra's and possibly Kawa's(There were broken images around it).

I did use opacity at one point, though. I know I kept it at a readable level, and no one complained about it... but images are affected by the opacity setting, too, so I eventually changed it.

I don't see the point of like 30% opacity, though -- what makes someone think that's good? Is near illegibility the new fad?

Unfortunately, I have to keep layouts off most of the time because there's someone's that still freezes up my browser (I think it's Acmlm's). I don't use layouts most of time -- just different fonts and colors.
