This low-quality video...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eI-J5t8US2Q
...has provided some valuable discoveries about a seemingly unused car in Hot Wheels Stunt Track Driver for the PC.

Here's the unused car and what the TCRF page has to say about it.

This car, numbered 0, has no corresponding file with an actual name. Its textures are unused and structured differently from any other car's, suggesting it is a leftover from early in development. It has a corresponding MMD file, so it should theoretically be usable in-game.

One thing to note is the wheel design. On every car, a standard "wheel in motion" texture is used. However, "car 0" seems to be an exception. Upon further review, however, the wheel textures in this sprite sheet are used...in the sample game shown in the video.

Notice that the screenshot of this is from a scene where the player does not actually control the car. Immediately after this scene is finished and the car is controllable by the player, the default models, textures, and general car setup are used as they appear in the final game (BLASTER.BMP).

The car shown in the video has a prototypical logo on the rear!

However, the textures from "car 0"'s bitmap file do not match up with those seen in the preview. Compare the windows, for instance; while they are chrome in the oddly-structured sprite sheet, the video clearly shows them as black. This suggests that in this demo, there was probably a version of the textures in between "car 0"'s creation and the final textures, which contained some properties of both.

The video also suggests that different sprite sheets were created between the two sprite sheets' creations; for example, compare the back of the drivable BLASTER in the demo video with the final.

I've never found a copy of the demo CD-ROM myself, but am eager to get my hands on one to see what it contains. The majority of models and textures shown in the video are not included in the final game (excluding, of course, the textures and models for BLASTER and SALTFLAT).

So, does anyone have a copy of this CD-ROM that they're willing to rip? Apparently it was some sort of cereal giveaway or something like that.

(I guess this post didn't really prove anything after all...but hey, maybe you got some idea out of it.)

I found that texture inside the files of the sampler. I actually do have the CD. It seems to work without the other two games that came with the CD, so I'll just upload it without the other games. I looked it up and the sampler version was caller World Adventure and was released after Stunt Track Driver.

Sorry about the little delay. Here's a .zip of the files

worldadventure.zip

Some things that I noticed: Stunt Track Drvier uses DirectX 6, while World Adventure uses 7 (probably not important though), and car09 (named car02 here) has been edited to remove the smile, and has various other changes.

It looks like the smiley face was exchanged for some gray text saying 'Hi Claire!' :o

Hah, I didn't even notice that when I posted it. I think some of the other files have been changed, but if this is going on the Wiki, it is a separate "game". Also, unless I've never unlocked in in the time that I've had this game, which is over 10 years, there's a texture for the car "Shadow" in the sampler that goes unused. It also is one of the unused textures from the first game, however.

Comparisons between car01 in the original and World Adventure:

It looks like this game still has some of the old unused audio, but I doubt I need to look into the music. (Even with the details given on the Wiki, I can't seem to figure out how to open it.)

Hm, while searching around I did find some debug text or something...

LAND Roll DEATH!
Two Wheel!
BPITCH DEATH!
PITCH DEATH!
Missed Jump DEATH!
2W Roll DEATH!
Landed Two Wheel!
LEFT TURN DEATH!
FAST TURN DEATH!
Right TURN DEATH!
FAST TURN DEATH! (Yes, it's repeated)
Extreme TURN DEATH 1!
Extreme TURN DEATH 2!
Two Wheel Wall Slam
Death Wall 1!
Two Wheel Wall Slam
Death Wall 2!
Adding Time

This is unrelated, but this game: http://tcrf.net/Hot_Wheels_Micro_Racers is also featured on the sampler CD.

Thank you so much for adding the DL link. No more scouring eBay for a copy of the CD!

Those lines you listed are almost definitely default text, so if you want, you can go ahead and add those along with the unused sprites to the wiki page.

The fact that it was released AFTER Stunt Track Driver complicates things a bit...most notably, why the unused sprite of Speed Blaster with the small logo on the rear appears in the final game, and a "finished" version of it appears in a demo released after the game. Perhaps some developer was working on it and accidentally included it with the files to be copies...but who knows.

I created that Micro Racers page, and am currently the only person who's contributed anything, so if you find anything worth noting, add information by all means.

I might as well just go and upload that game too because I wouldn't really be able to point out anything seen as cut or beta. I do not own the full game.

Microracers.zip

I don't know if I should be surprised or not, but the un-zipped size of this is just over 10 Mb.

There isn't much different in the Micro Racers demo compared to the final.

Stunt Track Driver, on the other hand, should be interesting to fiddle with. I'll have to try it on my laptop, as my desktop PC is bad with running programs older than 2007 or so. Thanks for the planned obsolescense, HP.

One thing I noticed: "gar2.bmp" is a shortened version of "walls.bmp", though they both have corresponding MMD files. I don't know which one is unused.

These games work perfectly fine on modern PCs, from what I found. Only some glitches relating to transparent textures and such here and there.

That "Oddly Structured Car" Looks extremely similar to the Hotwheels Prototype car, is it an earlier concept?
