So, I've been playing around with ROM corruption lately, finding some interesting glitches, but this is by far the oddest thing I've found. I was corrupting Metal Head for the Sega 32x, and the intro screen changed. However, it looks oddly non-glitched, and it even has the Sega scream from Sonic as opposed to the normal one.

Weren't there prototypes of Metal Head in that big, 1024 prototype release by drx several years back, the same one that had the Chaotix and other 32X protos as well? If I'm remembering correctly, it might be worth checking if any of those contain this intro.

The earliest prototype drx released definitely uses the alternate Sega intro Hoodoo456 found, but it uses the final's Sega sound. Neat to know that it's still in the final game. I've yet to play the other prototypes.

I guess I'm not alone, I just discovered the Vinesauce program and have been ROM corrupting too. I ended up trying Garfield Caught in the Act and got a ROM build date of 9-14-1995 to appear on the title that you don't usually see.

Now if it'd only work with n64 ROMs, Would love to screw with a 3D game, but they refuse to load properly!

First, make sure you do not modify anything within the first 4096 bytes of the ROM file.

Next, fix the checksum in the ROM. I think RN64CRC can do that for you.

Not on my PC right now but I ended up looking into this more yesterday. If I remember correctly, this is a region difference - the rainbow logo shows on the NTSC ROM when run on a Japanese Mega Drive or emulator in Japanese region, while the other is standard on a US Genesis, and is the only intro on the EU version.

I just tested what xdaniel said about the NTSC ROM on a Japanese Megadrive, and that's exactly right, it gave me the other rainbow intro.

This can also be changed in the options menu. Although in the North American version, you have to unlock them:

These are codes for Gens/GS and show ROM addresses; add $880000 to the address part to get the 32X logical address. And yes, the rainbow intro is still there, complete with Sega sound.

Not quite. Japanese defaults to "picture".

The option actually named "anime" still has to be unlocked.
It's even goofier, like turning the commander female!

Interesting enough, the PAL version does NOT block Japan 50hz region.
It shows the rainbow intro while appearing to default everything else English.
