I'm curious.

Circa 2008, I kept a decent diary and generally didn't have gaps longer than a month. I used a shareware Windows software for it, though, and it had to go. Now I'm only left with a few scattered entries here and there and I write in it extremely infrequently. Writing in my diary is no longer a ritual; it's no longer something I value and do every day. It's mundane and boring, and I feel like I have very little to write, even though that's not true and I know it's always interesting to read past entries. Thus, I'd like to get into the habit again.
My diary also happens to double as a dream journal, but over the course of the past two years my dreams have lost their vividness and I barely remember anything when I wake up. It's so sad.
A physical diary is not an option for me because I always want it to be available in a virtual form. I'm also paranoid and can't just have something like that lying around.

Have you ever kept a diary? In which form? What makes you keep going? Or am I the only person who still tries in this day and age? I demand more knowledge.

Back in 2004, there was one of those journals that came with the Game Riven that I used to write in, all the entries are unintelligible chicken scratch written with a glitter pen or something about how disappointed I was that Bush won, wrote in it very infrequently. Last entry was somewhere from 2006 where I say something about my mom playing bejeweled (and just to make it secret, I wrote it backwards)

Other then that, I was assigned a writer's notebook back in 2008-2009 which was mostly full of dramatic bullshit and what ever could fill 6 pages (some times I just listed things sitting around me), soon my therapists brought it up and I haven't really kept a journal since. Honestly, I probably don't need one since I usually talk with myself and can remember moments in my life pretty well.

I never really saw the point of keeping one. Possibly because I had a little brother who I could always share my day with. I kinda regret not keeping a log of my dreams, though. I've had a lot of really fun ones over the years.

I tend to keep one in my head. I don't have the dedication to write it down.

In a way, I tend to write to it using IRC rambling to myself in a dead channel or two I have that I can use for that. So... that sorta counts.... maybe???

I tried once when I was much younger. I did a test run where I didn't write down anything important. Sure enough, my family found it and started reading it in front of me, complaining about it being boring.

So maybe when I have my own place I'll try again. I think it would be healthy for me.

I've never kept a serious one.

I had some as a kid, but I don't count them as serious. They were mostly made of childish crap like 'my sister is dumb', or some game where my sister and I would spy on our parents.

I usually keep most of the stuff in my head. Sometimes, when it's bugging me, I'll eventually find someone to talk about that to them, making me feel better.

Acey says:

I used to keep a LiveJournal going, but stopped updating fairly recently.

I have a diary-type Tumblr now, but I don't update much...

Heh. I've considered picking up journaling again, but with some bits of my life I struggle to find someone I feel safe sharing to. Because of the discrepancies between who I am and what people know about me, having something like a journal lying around, either on the internet or on paper, would be a liability.

I've wanted to write stories about my friends, too. But, same issue there. I couldn't even tell those stories and have people believe them, not to mention the mess that would ensue if anybody ever did.

I have had a deadjournal since 2004. It used to be open to everyone, then just friends, and now it is not open to anyone, so it serves as a diary. I write in it whenever I want to, which nowadays is on a daily/sub-daily/weekly basis. In the past, there have been gaps of some months, because I would sometimes forget about it.

I am in the very slow process of taking backups of it, since I don't know how long the deadjournal website will last.

I've tried a public web diary a few times, to tell people what's up late in my life or to keep a log of evidence for police if I snapped, but every time I do I look back, get embarrassed at how I was and try to forget about it. I've debated doing so yet again, but it would probably just be more embarrassing in a recent context, with even fewer people to read it, meaning instead of "this is what I was up to today/why I feel happy/why I feel bad today, guys!" it'd be a log of whining about dumb things to be embarrassed about.

So I'll probably just stick with embarrassing myself with overusing that word here.

More or less the reason I don't do diaries, and it would be full of dull days anyways.

I briefly kept a diary in the form of an RTF file- it was a somewhat tumultuous time for me emotionally and I thought it would help organize my feelings. (and thus forced myself to write every day) I ended up abandoning it as things settled down, and haven't done anything similar since.

I only ever write down things that were exceptionally hilarious. Apart from that, I'm too lazy. :p

I don't usually like looking back to the past anyway. It's painful.
