I've looked through them with hex editors and found that the game uses TGA files for textures, but neither dragonunpacker nor Game Extractor can get anything from them. Any help you guys can offer is appreciated.

Somebody's trying now? The game looked like the one to use TGAs personally. I can't be of much help, but I thank you. I'll try to look through the files too though, tell you guys if there's anything interesting.

I just looked at HW_music.xpc. So far all I've found is that the game's music is stored as pairs of RIFF MIDI files and sample banks back-to-back (there are three of these pairs in all in this file).

All the actual important stuff at the beginning of the archive is a bit harder to gleam anything useful from with just one archive (i.e. it's not as simple as offset/length pairs or anything.) Could you upload at least a couple more (reasonably-sized) XPC files so I can compare their contents?

Alright, here's a quick tool I wrote to dump their contents. Run it from the command line in Windows or just drag and drop XPC files onto the EXE.

This might be of only limited use, though, because:
1) the files inside each archive don't have file names, just file numbers and type numbers
2) almost all of the individual files are unrecognizable (to me) - apart from some of the music data, like I mentioned above, all of the files may use some proprietary formats created by the developer. Without having filenames in the XPC files, it's hard to tell what specific file formats are involved.

I do remember though that I looked in the cars.xpc with a hex editor, and I saw the textures were TGA. is that any help at all?

Does it help at all that when I search the output files with Dragon Unpacker 5's Hyperripper, it gives me an MP1 file?

Which specific files does it say that for? MP1 might be a valid guess for the non-MIDI parts of the music files, but for anything else it's most likely bogus.

As for the TGA textures - I noticed that the files in hw_cars contain several TGA file names, but I'm fairly certain these are all just references to files located somewhere else, as several file names appear multiple times and I didn't see any actual TGA-format data in the same files.

at offset 0010D630, there's "wheel.tga", at offset 195040 there's "twinmill256v8-nm.tga"... just Ctrl-F for "Tga", you'll find a lot.

My brother recently got a hex editor for cheating in a lot of games, but I think I could help you out with this. The hex editor only works on running processes however.

Which output files were you searching, though? MP1 (audio) files would realistically only show up for the stuff inside HW_music.xpc.

Though that's not likely to be correct, anyway, since MP1 is an extremely outdated format. In either case it's more likely to be a false positive.

I don't know if anyone still wants to try cracking this thing, but I recently found out that the PS2 files for the game (.XPS) give strange folder names in GCFScape if converted to a .00(X) file from Hoodo456's thingy and changed to a .vpk file.

Also, audacity is able to get audio from the regular .xpc files if using Import Raw. Although they are very speed up and low quality, it does the trick if you want the game sounds.

More on that, GCFScape reads that there are multiple files in those folders (I'm opening WORLD1.XPS currently,) But trying to open the folder shows nothing, and trying to extract it crashes GCFScape. I feel like this is going somewhere, but idk

I got Marco Pontello's BitmapRipper (http://mark0.net/soft-bitmaprip-e.html) to spit out a bunch of .jpg files from Hw_cars.xpc. However, they can not be opened. Marco's Trid program tells me that the data structure of the .jpg files is 75% jpg, and 25% mp3. Now I need something that can separate those, and then maybe the .jpg files would be openable.
