So, my mom randomly decided we should go through a bunch of our old VHS tapes that we never watch so we can donate them to make more space. There's a bunch that I forgot or never knew we had (Spy Kids 2, Max Keeble's Big Move (???), a bunch of Disney movies) and some I made sure to keep (The Great Mouse Detective, old episodes of Sonic and Super Mario Bros. 3, Shrek) and some I thought we had but can't find.

So, how about you? Do you still have VHS tapes around? Do you still watch them? Are there any in particular you treasure?

The Great Mouse Detective is always a must-keep!

We got rid of all of ours sadly. Had to clean up and make room for the renter we had for a time..

EDIT: Though, I think I hid NIHM away somewhere now that I think about it. Some films I refused to let go.

I know that, somewhere, we have a tape of the Aristocats. I love that movie so much. I can distinctly remember sitting down and watching it 5 times in one day.

Yeah, I've got plenty of VHS tapes. I never really tried to convert to DVD, or Blu-Ray. In fact, if I had a VHS player that still worked, I'd probably still be using them. (TV has an integrated VHS, but it ate the tape once and I never tried it again)

At a glance, I think there's at least 30, 35. There's bound to be others somewhere, but I'm not about to dig through any boxes to check.

FrankerZ FrankerZ FrankerZ FrankerZ
In general, my family had a very large collection of VHS. (a big part being also recorded stuff, like the entirety of Dragon Ball)

I... wouldn't know what to point out from it though. At a point we didn't watch many movies... I guess we have things from when I was younger like Land Before Time, and uh... stuff? The Iron Giant was a little later but I love that movie too.

Then uh, we have my brothers' anime stuff, which involved from the Ranma 1/2 movies to Mizayaki films and whatever.
Which generally they let me watch any of. They actually casually got more later on until shortly before we had internet.

But yeah, there must be well over a few hundred VHS. Most of them from when my brothers were kids or teens. (For context, I'm a decade younger)

Had lots, until they got too old to play right.

Used to have Felix the cat the movie(want to see that again someday), Beauty and the Beast, Who framed Rodger Rabbit(Thanks YouTube!), and random action and monster movies like Terminator 2(even had behind the scenes look at the end of the credits) and Godzilla.

Got a whole collection of them. Somewhere.

Really only use DVDs, here. Not too much a fan of VHS, actually, aside from the nostalgia bit...

The plus side to VHS is that you can stop and turn off the VCR, just to resume later (a feature my grandmother swore by VHS for a long time because of), but DVDs are just so much better in every other way that I actually never missed that. Always have been good at remembering positions, anyway...

Yeah I got a couple big boxes of them from when I was a kid. I started digitizing some of the TV recordings a few months ago, but got a bit held up. I was thinking of uploading old commercials and bumpers and stuff to YouTube maybe.

There was one tape I liked that had a bunch of Christmas cartoon specials on it. It had some common stuff like Charlie Brown and Rudolph, and not-so-common stuff like... The Christmas Tree Town? And then I have tapes dedicated to single shows like Animaniacs, Dexter's Lab, Sonic, and Mega Man. And then there's tapes with just random episodes of random shows. Some neat stuff I like going back to once in a long while for nostalgia's sake or something.

My family still loves VHS tapes, and we've never really gotten rid of any of them so I still have tons from when my sister and I were kids. We also still use blank VHS tapes to record shows that we won't be able to watch on TV when we're not home. We have really basic cable so we don't have some special box that can do that for us.

It sounds bad, but it really doesn't bother me. 50 channels is enough, and it's not like I don't have a DVD player (or PS3 for Blu-Rays) if I want to watch something a bit newer.

Decent DVD players will remember the position too, as long as you leave the disc in them.

What I liked about VHS was the feel of the tapes. Big durable plastic cartridges that you'd push into the machine, that you could give to kids without worrying... I was able to repair a tape once by transplanting the spools inside into another when the case melted. DVDs are so flimsy and weak, and will even just degrade on their own after a while...

I had a rather large collection (large enough that I remember building VHS forts out of them) and I'm sure we still got them somewhere because my brother is a bit of a hoarder. But for the life of me I can't seem to remember which ones they are.

We did have a Disney Movie collection set and I remember we had alot of our own recorded tapes (like my brothers DBZ episodes) but the one I really remember watching all the time was a Super Mario Super Show VSH tape which had most cartoon episodes but none of the life-action stuff (except for the "Do the Mario" credits). It was that and our SNES and GB Mario games that actually got me and my brother loving the series.

We did also have a Blockbuster membership card, and every so often we went there to rent out a movie and a few games.

I have a few somewhere, but they're all packed away. I don't have anything I can really play them in anymore, so they unfortunately just sit around doing a whole lot of nothing.

I mostly pick up old horror or action films. Especially old Mexican videohome (direct to video) movies that will never be released on DVD.

I would if my parents didn't already have like a million tapes already, refuse to record more, refuse to get rid of some old duplicates, and I wasn't ridiculed by my sister for purchasing something on an old format.

My insane father has all the tapes. Fat luck I'm getting any of those for my own use.
