Okay, I learned from the first time I got a checkbook, that money FLIES away! Especially when you get something like pizza for a few days. 200 dollars can quickly get to 160 something dollars. That's quite a jump down.

Has anyone here ever had surprises when spending before?

I got a £300 bursary from the college mere weeks ago. Because of birthdays, Christmas, paying for exam resits and just small lunches, it's pretty much gone already. I don't get another one until March.

My paycheck from last Friday is almost gone. That's almost $350 gone in a week. I don't get paid until this Friday the 21st.

Christmas, food, and gas are expensive. As is car insurance. At least I don't have to pay insurance again for a month.

I'm generally terrible with money. I usually know how much I own and can spend, but I very often lost track of how much I've spent so far. This is slightly annoying and I should really pay more attention to what I buy and what I shouldn't buy.

Christmas time also eats up a lot of my doshdoshdosh And I don't even buy a lot of presents, board games just tend to cost

I'm really good with food money because I cook almost every meal which is über-economical. The real problem I had was like going out and buying expensive sweaters or shoes, which I'm okay with, actually. But I'd have times where I'd be all "oh, yeah, I can't go see Neon Indian with you because I just spent all my money on jeans".

I track my money too much to get caught by surprise. Even when I get behind, I often have $100 more than I thought I did.

I was always taught to guard my money like a crazy person, so, yeah.

I was taught the same exact thing, but I guess that after years of trying to figure out how to stretch $2 a week out as much as possible (mainly by squirreling it away until I had a sizable amount, but even then I'd have to get a present or presents), I'm trying very hard not to let $200 dissipate on me when I withdraw my loan refund from the bank. I usually have to go every two weeks, and I try to spend my money as wisely as possible, but it tends to disappear and I barely scrape by for the last few days before needing to go to the bank again.

Of course if my mom knew (and she probably does) she'd be really pissed at me and would rather I only spend money on just the bare minimum of art supplies and ten cent ramen packages. I would NOT be surprised if she went ahead and made it so she would be the only person who could access that account then gave me a bullshit allowance of like $50 a month to spend on food.

Then there's also the fact that she told me when I told her I was coming home for Christmas that I didn't know how money works.

Never mind the fact that I just payed $200 into my loan repayment and I'm actually ahead of that right now.

I just got done paying $250 for new glasses and about $300+ in dentistry, if you're wondering why my balance is 'low'.
