| I recall that the Monster World iv ROM had the modifications on the same ROM file instead of a separate one, but that may be very well the exception to the rule (maybe that has to do with it being also on PSN / Xbox) Other games were altered like that, mainly to remove flashing screens for seizure concerns (Atlantis no Nazo) or censorship (PAL Super Mario RPG, Famicom detective...) It'd be very interesting to look into these and document them. I'd say introduce a Virtual Console category including SNES/NES/Genesis games with such official mods... but we all know how well things turned out back then (empty pages with build dates). I tried something similar with the E-reader compatible games category, but I consent it is far from perfect. Always wondered though why Super Game Boy aren't sub-categories of Game Boy games. Or the Mega-CD for that matter (even if X32 as a separate category is justified due to the huge technological leap). |
