I currently don't have a job at the moment so i've been trying to get money by using those offer sites (e.g Points2Shop). Please note that i'm not trying to advertise the site to get referrals (even though that would be awesome) but would simply like to know if any of you use this site or a similar one and what do you think of them.

If you do want to join a site like this though just put the site you want to join and i'll give you my referral link.

P.S Also is it OK to put a 468x60 (or smaller) banner in my signiture to try to get referrals?

P.S.S Also if anyone is buying anything from amazon could you click the link currently in my signiture before you buy it, it helps me out and doesn't effect how much you pay.

I'm sorry in advance if this annoys you.

No I don't, and I don't plan on ever doing so.

Market research is worth way more then that. :/

This is a site where you sell your opinion and habits for market research. I see no reason to take part in such and I'm under the impression that it's worth way more then they let you know.

Nope. I just don't rely on this type of site (because I'd rather keep my personal info safe), and I don't know the history behind any of these companies. Also, this is enough to keep me away from such a site.

For a year or so I've been a mild to moderate user of various "get paid to" type sites and similar, I admit it. I've gone from keeping private to giving out my address to any company that pays(key word there is pays) figuring we can just shred junk mail.

I pretty much funded getting my Nintendo 3DS on months of work on Amazon Mechanical Turk, mostly doing surveys or studies that are posted up on there, as well as SwagBucks which I have a love hate relationship with. I've kinda gotten out of MTurk lately but it's done me good in the past.

However, I've probably got enough of these sites as it is, so I'm sorry to say I won't be signing on to Points2Shop, especially given the review implying it's filled with lots of surveys... Outside of Amazon Mechanical Turk(which may have changed) most sites love rejecting me on surveys, to the point I rarely attempt them. Plus I might ditch most of them by next year if I can grab a job. Maybe.

I could probably go on for several paragraphs about the sites I use, stuffing them with referral links and advice, but I'm betting that'd come off kinda rude or pushy. Still, SamuelEarl666 or anyone else, if you'd like me to try and get you on a few of the sites I do, along with some tips and cheap tricks. Feel free to PM me, unless the admins would find it appropriate for me to whore out my referral links and advice here.

... oh, and I'll do you one more tiny favor to make up for not signing up to that site. I've stuck your referral ID into a site called datsoup.com, so there's a small chance you might snag a referral from there. I know how it is trying to save up on these kinda sites with no referral.

No.

Thanks for the quick reply. I wouldn't want to get myself stupidly banned being a member for quite some time now.

I do Agree that the Surveys are quite bad (e.g. too long/rarely accept) but that isn't all thats there though. I rarely do surveys and i seem to be doing just fine.
@Someguy: Thanks for putting my link on that site. It looks useful.

Mom keeps pressuring me to get into them more (since I did introduce her to them and all), but I really don't want to deal with that too much anymore. ON occasion I'll fire up my Ubuntu Live CD and go through the influx of MyPoints emails that've been piling up just to get like two cents per each of them, but apparently I'm not going to get anything until I put in an address. That isn't my mom's.

AUX I'M GONNA GIVE A STRANGE COMPANY OUR APARTMENT ADDRESS? DAT COOL? DAT COOL.

i used it for about a week a game card for an mmo... i think it was $10?

then i used swagbucks! i grabbed a program that would force a click every x seconds, and i used that to take advantage of its watch videos/ads for points thing every night. i got enough money to buy a chinese clone of an r4 sdhc off amazon... it was under $10 and i didn't have to pay anything because of that.

i think i got banned from points2shop after a period of inactivity? i'm not sure. but i've lost interest and faith in those kinds of things beyond a few dollars...

I don't think it was inactivity, I forgot that i had my account for over a year and i still have it. It is quite easy to lose interest though and i'll probably completely forget about it once i find something better (like an actual job).

Sounds like seriously not worth anyone's time.

In 2009-2010, I received three times the same spam from PointShop.fi. Someone had "recommended" their site to me, and I received their autogenerated recommendation. I do not know who it was -- the e-mail address shown in the recommendation was not familiar to me. The message said I can earn "points" by participating in competitions, filling surveys and by recommending to friends; and that those "points" can be exchanged to goods in their shop. I promised to never ever load their webpage.

Today now that I search for information about that shop, I find countless stories by people who tell how difficult it was to actually get anything beyond something trivial like candies, how they lost their money due to return/cancel policies that were made nearly impossible to follow without extreme persistence, and how they had to give their information to advertisers fully knowing it will be used for direct marketing.

I stand by the opinion that I made the right choice to never even load their webpage.

Years ago, it happened that I received an offer from some magazine (by Bonnier AB) that if I subscribe to their magazine, I get a nice coat as a gift. The condition was that you must wait until you get the first magazine. I considered it a good deal if I subscribe for a month, and get a magazine and a coat, and cancel immediately thereafter. How they did was that it took a lot time for that first magazine (and the gift) to arrive, so that I had to actually pay for two months of subscription. When I finally did get my gift, I cancelled the subscription immediately. Afterwards, I found out that they added my information to their direct advertising lists. Year after year, the following happened once every few months: Their advertisements land in my mailbox that has a sticker on it that says "No advertising". I take my phone and call their customer service, and tell them to immediately remove my information from any database they have; from all marketing lists and such. They promise to do so. Repeat two or three months later. For several years straight. I don't know what finally stopped them. Maybe because I moved, or something.

it... really isn't. honestly all that effort is... it's just so much easier to get a job than to try this, unless you've got some refresh macro going on...

and even then. it's just all so shady and it's "free" for a reason :/

Ha, I used Mechanical Turk ages ago to buy some stuff at Amazon.

Really, if you want to get some quick money and don't want to do this, just sell your blood. Down here on the US side, there's very few jobs - and our main export has become blood. There's always 25-50 people in line to donate blood every morning outside the local blood bank. They get thirty five dollars per donation.

I spent an entire year filling out surveys for an exclusive service that was related to Taco Bell/etc. They never actually sent me that $50 gift card I earned even after filling out every survey I got for an entire year.

That pretty well burned my out on any free money earning things. I'll just earn my money the old fashioned way like I have been doing--way more efficient.

I know the pain of this shit from doing surveys on WarpPortal (Gravity's site, I used to play iRO quite often) for quite a while.

Virtual machines are necessary due to BadWare and the surveys will decline you laughably often to the point that I actually started lying through my ass. No guilt involved.

So yeah, uh, I don't trust shit like this at all.

Sorry to bump this already dead thread but what about SwagBucks? Its not something you can make a living out of but you can sometimes get points using its search engine which is run by Google and ask so it looks quite good. I don't use do other things like the surveys or watch videos but if you ignore all that and treat it as a simple search engine its ok. What do you think about it?
