Hello,
I have been trying to get into Brave Fencer Musashi, to find unused stuff right? I was wondering anyone has heard anything about it, having any of that stuff. I tried finding unused text, and was able to find a little text in (I have the actual CD) MAIN.CD using the text musashi, and a Tranlhextion code scanner, but none of it was anything unused. I also used some thing to get all the sound files out, some 900 files with 5-15s of sound, and listened to them all to no avail.
I used PEC for some cheats and used the moonjump to look around the maps and stuff, but I seen that someone already wrote the cheats for item editor, so I figured that meant that someone already looked for extra items and things.
So I'm asking, can anyone offer any help?

Go through the item list anyway, even if someone made a code. It's possible they missed something or didn't notice.

I'm sure you guys posted somewhere, but what should I use to do that for the psx emulator?

EDIT: Yeah, nevermind, I found Ctrl+J was the function in epsxe with PEC that I was looking for.

I did find this stuff, though... I realized now that it could be a debug menu of some sort? I used that translhextion thing on Main.CD and found this, and It was the only unusual thing I found in that file. I left it the way I found it in the hex editor, I didn't know if I should change it or whatever. Any idea about it?

One more thing before I go to sleep, it appears that the SC-01.CD - SC-07.CD contains the text for each chapter. I'm pretty sure at least, except I'm running into an odd problem, translextion is only getting partial text. Should I change program, or is there something I can do to fix this?

The text at the beginning should read: Sir Musashi! Why did thou cometh hither?
Later you can see what should be CREST GUARDIAN
And after that you see, what I think is Knight Lardwick, and at the end I think Ribson.

That text looks compressed. If you upload a whole file somewhere and post a link, we might be able to decompress it.

Ok, well it's in the iso of the game if you extract it, but I don't think I can post a link to that. So what site should I use to put this file up? (Sorry for being such a noob...)

So I did, and you were right. There were quite a few oddities in there. I don't know exactly what to think of them.
Okay... so I assume this either means that they had more items you could appraise, (either cut, or just cut from American release), or they made too many slots for them, and just left it like that. A small note is that normally the appraised item causes a zelda-like text box describing what you got... but not for the ? items.

3D- appears as a question mark, cannot be sold but can be appraised as 3E
3E- appears as a question mark, can be sold for 500$.
3F- same as 3D, except turns into 40
40- same as 3E
41- same as 3D, except turns into 42
42- same as 3E
43- same as 3D, except turns into 44
44- same as 3E
45- same as 3D, except turns into 46
46- same as 3E

Then the list continues on for a little while as normal... but then... you hit your first blank, 6E, you can't do anything with it, can't discard, use, or sell, so this prompted the person who did this to quit I assume. But if you continue you get...

71- Juice
72- Pea soup
73- Cake
74- Gravy
75- Salad
76- Lasagna
77- Pork Chop

If you've played this game, you might recognize these as the food you buy from the restaurant. Well, in this game, when you buy food from the restaurant it is automatically eaten, so either the food used to be able to put in your inventory, or they had to put it in your inventory for their coding to work. Of course again, this could be a difference between the Japanese game and the American one. I haven't been able to get the Japanese game fully working yet.

But it continues on... and gets wierd...

7E- Clown
7F- Guard
80- Maid
81- MercenC
82- Sheperd
83- CarpentB
84- KnightA
85- MercenB
86- CarpentC
87- Chef
88- CookB
89- KnightC (Causes a green bar like you are selecting an option in a dialogue to appear)
8A- Alchemist (Same with this one, you can't click it because your cursor is on the item at the time and only appears when your cursor is on the item, so moving down to it doesn't work.)

Now those, I figure has something to do with your rescue list on the game because a name appears, right, skip down two people on your rescue list, and that's then next person, skip two again, and that's the next person, until it hits the end, Alchemist.

8B- Huge blank spot, instead of making just it's spot look blank, it makes everything look blank, apparently the first item column is on top of the second, and this blank spot makes everything below it look blank, of course you can still select the item it covers up... just a weird thing...
8C- Bee Plant
8D- Blank
8E- Rootrick
8F- Blank
90- Herb Plant
91- Blank (has that weird green bar select thing, like KnightC did)
92- Sleepie
93- Blank
94- V-Soldier
95- Blank
96- Bubbles
97- Blank
98- HayaWolf
99- Blank
9A- Ginger-E
9B- Blank
9C- ToadStool
9D- Blank
9E- Col-Capri
9F- Blank
A0- Soldier2H
A1- Blank
A2- Flatski
A3- Blank
A4- Jon & Leno
A5- Blank
A6- DLumina1

Now this one, is the list for toy collectibles. Start at Bee Plant, skip down two, and so on...

A7-FF are blank except:
FC- Name is blank, description is a ton of ??? and strangely after one game night passes it turns into a sourball
FE- Same as FC except doesn't turn into anything.

Any reply from anyone at all? I will list all my questions here I suppose for quick reference:

Is my post 3/7 a sign of a debug menu, or is it just the names of the map for no apparent reason that's readable?

Regarding Joe's post, who wants to decompress a file for me? And what site should I use that would cause least problems for me to upload and for you to download?

Regarding post 6/7 of mine, does anyone have any idea of what might have caused 7E through A6 to appears as those things?

Regarding post 6/7 again, if I confirm that 3D-46 and 71-77 are not in the Japanese release, that would most likely mean that 71-77 used to be able to put in your inventory, but what about 3D-46? How can I confirm if there were planned for use or if they were actually used but removed later?

EDIT: Ok, 3D-46 in the Japanese release are question marks too. 71-77 don't go to your inventory in the Japanese release either, so I think that might be something cut. There are like 7 items at the bar you can buy, each one increasing in healing power. I have a strategy guide that lists cake as an item that fully heals you, which is odd because it isn't the best you can buy, and I'm fairly sure it doesn't heal that much.

Regarding 6/7 again again, what would cause that green bar to pop up when hovering over an item like that? Is it just a tiny graphical glitch or is it actually selecting something?

Alright, so I went through all the codes for the map load changer. Luckily I only had to change the last byte, not sure what the first byte affects, sometimes it does things but sometimes it doesn't. I'm currently matching the list of places to the one I found it Japanese, and trying to match some of the random codes that don't load or just stay as a black screen. (Or the odd one that makes you return to the castle after you left it and your character is invisible for no apparent reason, 800B9A08 2007)

I did find one odd level, at first I thought it was a taken out level or something, but I found and matched the level it came from, but it has a different camera angle and a strange numbered texture. Here's a video of it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rObyDxvKShA .

I really don't have anything to add, but I did want to note that I loved this game as a kid, so anything you pull up is really interesting to me and I hope you keep at it!

Awesome, thank you. It's good to know someone else is cares to see what I came up with. I really enjoyed this game a lot too, and I seen that Chuggaconroy had someone find unused content in Okamiden. So I thought it would be cool to try for my favorite games, and then I found this site. I've learned a lot, and it's been fun, but there isn't that much activity which kinda sucks.

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
