| Background: I've recently been looking into Wacky Wheels, a DOS Mario Kart clone from Apogee, and its early history. The summarized version is that the game's programmer gave his employer, Copysoft, access to the source, before taking the game over to Apogee. Copysoft built their own game from the source, Skunny Kart, resulting in some legal wrangling over the rights which apparently went nowhere. Content: Skunny Kart stores its assets completely differently to both Copysoft's previous games and its predecessor, the Wacky Kart proto, although with the same extension as those games (LID). Numerous tools online purport to read the Skunny Kart LID format (yet don't), perhaps assuming it's the same as in earlier titles. I'd like to get at the files in order to compare them against the proto and final Wacky Wheels. As a bonus, the Adlib audio for the game by Hannes Seifert would be accessible directly for the first time. The final Skunny game, simply dubbed "Skunny" and the only game released after Skunny Kart by the developer, also included a Skunny Kart formatted LID file. I'm not interested in the contents of this file, but it's included in the download below as an example to compare against. Copysoft still sells Skunny Kart on their web site (seriously), so the download link below is the official shareware version, straight from said web site. The LIDs in the first link are from the full versions, however. Downloads: LIDs from Skunny Kart and Skunny Skunny Kart (shareware) Thanks for any help or interest. |
