It's been established in interviews that Ivy the Kiwi was more sepia-toned in its original Japanese release, and was colourised for North America at the suggestion of XSEED, the NA publishers. e.g. See this Joystiq interview.

Ivy the Kiwi? has a very unique look; and you've added color to the American release. What's the inspiration for the visuals?

Usually at the end of the game, there's a special movie or end credits that you see. In this game, I wanted to have a storybook that unfolds, so that you'd be able to read a virtual storybook. We did the total design based on that concept. Regarding the color, we were able to make a deal with XSEED to publish it, and we were talking and XSEED suggested that maybe we should add a little more color for the US audience. I know that, depending on the region, there are different tastes, different thinking behind colors. We worked on it, and I'm really happy with the outcome.

This is probably worth covering on the wiki, where the Ivy article is currently quite stubby, but I was also curious if anyone knows whether the same changes carried over to the PAL version, which was published by Rising Star and not XSEED. I've read reviews of the PAL version which mention the game's overall beigeness, but even the colourised North American release could be fairly accurately described this way. Can anyone confirm either way?

Huh. Forgot I made that. I guess we can look into this, but which version are we talking? There are... 3? I think?

I guess five, actually. The Wii was the lead platform according to that interview (or maybe a different one, take my word for it), but the Windows Phone version came out first, in Japan only, and the DS version launched alongside the Wii. Later, "mini" versions were made for WiiWare and DSiWare--the WiiWare version also being Japan-only. According to this review of the US DSiWare version, the game includes the 50 story levels from the full game, dropping the 50 bonus levels, and the screenshots are in the colourised style of the XSEED release.

I was able to "try" a PAL version of the Wii game, and it is indeed the same as my American copy (for at least the first few levels, I wasn't about to do a full playthrough). Barring weird regions like Korea (no idea if it released there), this means that on the Wii at least, the Japanese version is the only one with the original graphics and international releases are the XSEED colourised edition. Presumably this means the Windows Phone game also uses the Japan graphics, but I'm not sure what the DS, DSi and WiiWare (EDIT: Japanese sepia) versions do.

EDIT: Here's some comparison shots, the first is Ivy the Kiwi? mini (Japanese, WiiWare), and the second is the Ivy the Kiwi (North American, Wii).

They're native hardware shots, but I'm unsure whether they'd pass muster on the wiki, since they're not the prescribed 640*480. Many (maybe even most) games don't use the full resolution, but have the Wii hardware scale a smaller image into the full display area before passing it on to the TV, so there's a lot of cases where real-world correct doesn't match wiki correct.

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
