As for the exits... If I'm reading the exits for the rooms right, this is where they go:

Room0 - Fire Mountain
Room1 - Ice Ring Isle
Room2 - Crescent Moon Isle (This island doesn't have a grotto.)
Room3 - Diamond Steppe Island
Room4 - Islet of Steel (This island doesn't have a grotto, but it does have a Triforce Chart cave.)
Room5 - Bomb Island
Room6 - Star Island
Room7 - Cliff Plateau Isles
Room8 - Rock Spire Isle
Room9 - Angular Isles
Room10 - Stone Watcher Island
Room11 - Overlook Island
Room12 - Bird's Peak Rock
Room13 - One of the Fairy Isles
Room14 - Another Fairy Isle
Room15 - Another Fairy Isle
Room16 - Bird's Peak Rock (Again)

Interesting. Some of the islands that have key items in the final had these grottoes. I'm going to wager a guess that the island order wasn't final when these were made, but that's pure conjecture.

Edit: OK, so here are the possible chest contents from that weird actor:

20 = Telescope
02 = Blue Rupee
7E = Deciphered Triforce Chart

Based on where Room4 is supposed to exit to (Islet of Steel), I'm thinking that the intended chest contents is the Triforce Chart. The fact that the ID used is one of the deciphered charts suggests that you weren't always supposed to have Tingle decipher them.
This group of rooms sure is an odd bunch. We are able to explain why two of the three warps crash the game. The only other warp that crashes the game is in Room9. Its strange because I think the Angular Isles has a hole. Another strange oddity is that it looks Dark Linkaël was able to get into Room4 according to this pic on the page.

How he was able to get in I don't know because the game is always crashing on me when I load that room from the map select. I hope he can answer this. If that chest really contains a Deciphered Triforce Chart then these rooms might be older than we thought, especially since this is a non-standard chest.

The room crashes because the "chest" actor disagrees with the final game. Changing that actor to something more benevolent should fix the hanging issue.

Room9 probably crashes because the spawn point it specifies on the Angular Isles no longer exists.

Here is a question. Is it possible to take what is in the chest and move it to another chest or perhaps to a person who gives you an item? It would be cool if we could 100% confirm that this item is a Deciphered Triforce Chart.

I don't think it's possible. This actor is completely different from the final game's chest data, and since it crashes the game, we can't figure out what its parameters do. I think the best thing we're going to get is what I did - take the bytes and see what they would be as contents IDs. I'm sorry.

Don't be sorry about something that isn't possible to hack to begin with . I'm now thinking that Dark Linkaël deleted that chest data in order to access that room. I hope he can confirm this. I will update the page a bit more with the new info you gave me.

The absence of King of Red Lions is the principal cause of non-loading room 4. Load this room at a time when the King of Red Lions is usable.

E3ROOP has the same problems.

Use this code, it can walk through walls. In room 4, the chest is impossible to see without this code:

040A327C 4800017C
040A63D4 4800098C

I just see the contents of the chest... It's a surprise!

Otherwise, very nice work on the page unused rooms, it is better now.

From what I can see, the chest is definitely the factor for the game crashing, not the KORL. I tried placing the treasure chest object in A_nami using wind viewer and that map also crashed when loaded from the map select (I don't think I properly set the parameters for the chest but it crashed regardless). I also tried accessing room4 just after you meet the KORL on Windfall Island and the room still crashes the game. The only time I was able to access this room was on a completed game file but the chest was already open. I can't be the only one getting these results, right? I guarantee you that if you change the chest actor to something actually used in game this room will load. Someone should try and see.

The way I see it, I think that the item in the chest really was suppose to be a deciphered triforce map. In a completed game, the room loads because whatever item that was in the chest was already obtained and the game won't crash on an open chest it seems(not 100% confirmed though). The item can't be the telescope because I had that item when I tried getting in after Windfall Island and the game crashed. A blue rupee is highly unlikely because it would be a lame treasure for an island to have. Like really? 5 rupees is the highlight of the island? So it has to be a deciphered triforce map as Gamma pointed out although I'm curious how he figured that out.

We must go further in the game, I do not know where to, but the reason is King of Red Lions. However, I do not know the exact reason for this problem and when it turns off. E3ROOP, it is the opposite, it works only at the beginning of the game.

We need to test for the game and see when you can visit the room 4, but also for the reverse E3ROOP. Maybe he should wait for King of Red Lions agreed to visit the entire ocean, not just at the beginning. I'll try to see...

The unused chest...

How you were able to get in with the chest shut I have no idea. I tried accessing the room again after making it to dragon roost cavern and the game still freezes. Maybe its because I am using cheats to get to the room? I don't know..... The next question is why is the treasure a heart? It could be that there really isn't anything inside of the chest and the game gives you a heart so it doesn't crash when opening. Oracle of Seasons does something like this. A chest that isn't defined to have a set object will give you one rupee. The game could also be hardwired to refuse to give Link a deciphered triforce map since it really isn't an obtainable item to begin with. Just me throwing thoughts around I guess...

Seriously Gamma, what method did you use to try to determine what was inside of the chest? I'm curious.

I downloaded a savegame, a year ago for the US version. Luckily, this is a savegame end of the game, but apparently cheated. I'm definitely sure at some point in the game, the room 4 will be playable, but I do not know from when. "d_a_tbox" is the error message in the room...

For the chest, I think this is the default text. I know that the text on the image is visible for some characters who can not speak. The same for the small heart.

Unless it is an old item removed!

Yeah, it's most likely the default text - that message is the first one in the main script file (zel_00.bmg in bmgres.arc), so the game probably falls back to that message 0 if ex. none is specified.

Ya I know that the text in the image gets used for characters that you don't normally meet. That makes sense because it is literally the first string of text in the script for the game if you look at the ISO in a hex editor. The game probably just defaults to that string because it is the first. The more I look at this, the more it appears to just be an undefined treasure chest but without looking at the code, it is hard to say in an absolute sense.

I propose this to someone. One of us should try changing the contents inside the chest to something non-plot specific(ie 200 rupees or a joy pendent) if that is possible. Quoting what Gamma said, it is unusual to have a treasure chest as an actor. Maybe whatever is put in the chest will ALWAYS default to a heart because chest actors are an old left over.

This chest is interesting, yet it is also driving me nuts!

The default text is logical, but the small heart... I'm sure there is an item from a older version of the game and was replaced by another special item.

Tomorrow, I can try to change the contents of the chest if possible. I can also remove the chest to see the effects of loading room 4. "d_a_tbox", "box = chest?"... One thing is for sure, it seems that it is an object that changes later in the game, this is not a history of chest open.

In any case, this chest is unique in The Wind Waker!

I hope you are successful in changing the chests contents and trying to get the room loaded without the chest. Regardless, please let me know your results!

Since we are on the subject of this unused chest, here is something else that might interest you. I was snooping around the ISO in a hex editor and I think I found a list of all the names of objects used in Wind Viwer around 0x38E810. I tried replacing some of the names of enemies in A_nami with a some on the list and they did indeed change. What is most interesting and why I bring this up is that there are a list of names similar to the unused chest in room4 around 0x38EA30.

takara...&ÿ>takara2..&ÿ>takara3..&ÿ>takara4..&ÿ>takara5..&ÿ>takara6..&ÿ>takara7..&ÿ>takara8..&ÿ>takaraK..&ÿ>takaraI..&ÿ>takaraM

takara3 is the name of the chest in room4 so this looks like a list of treasure chest objects. The names in this small list aren't used in K_Test2 which makes me believe they are all unused treasure chest objects. Just something else to screw around with .

What I did was take the parameters of the chest object (20027E), split it up into bytes (20, 02, and 7E), then changed the contents ID byte of the chest in the basement of Link's house to one of those.

As for those names... You know, more than actor names are defined there - the ASCII from .dzr and .dzs files are there, too. Pretty sure that the actual chest chunk (TRES, which is in a room's stage.arc) uses those names, too. "Takara" in Japanese means "Treasure."

Where were you looking? Did you look in K_test2's DZS?

Now, I'm wondering... what if we were to take the actor entry for this early chest actor and transplant it to a TRES section in another room's stage? I will check out that possibility later today.

A note: The "invalid item" default is a green rupee. When I documented some of the contents IDs, I found that most of the pick-up items (arrows, hearts, magic jars, ect.) are actually valid in treasure chests, though like Dark Linkael's picture, they have no text.

Well now that you mention it, the name Takara is used in K_Test2's DZS file. I was simply checking the actor list in Wind Viewer before. I'm starting to wonder if we are blowing this up. Maybe all that really is in the chest is a heart and there is nothing else to it besides the fact that an treasure chest actor is being called. Am I wrong?

Why would they put a heart in that chest? It's obviously not an item that was meant to be picked up from a chest. If that actor is indeed a remnant of the past, it might be reading its parameters wrong. I will attempt to port it to another room's TRES when I finish what I'm doing right now.

Alright, while we can't port the entry, I did find something interesting:

In the actor's parameters, 20 is the ID for the chest type (what the chest looks like). Therefore, 02 and 7E are the only unknown bytes. Because 02 is a blue rupee, I'm thinking 7E was the contents ID. Perhaps 02 acted like a trigger byte used in other actors. The trigger byte would cause the chest to appear when a switch or condition (IE "kill all enemies") was satisfied.

The "7E" is the problem, but I do not understand why it works very late in the game. There is something that disables or enables this thing at some point in the game.

"FF20027E" is the original.

Using "FF200200" with Wind Viewer, the room works normally with the same item in the chest. However, if I enable debug mode, there is a red text error at the top of the screen.

This "takara3" probably comes from an older version of the game, but it is very difficult to know more about it.

Another thing, did you not notice that the item and the textbox are shifted upwards?

Yes, but the "FF" is unlikely to actually do anything.

Really? It works if you change 7E to 00? I will have to try that.

The actor itself comes from an earlier period, but the name "takara3" and the other "takaras" are used in the TRES sections of a room's DZS.

The textbox is shifted upwards only because the text it's displaying isn't formatted to appear as a "You got the thing!" textbox.

To "FF200000" also works, there is nothing that changes in the chest.

There is a "takara8" as in the "stage.dzs." However, I_SubAN has three chests, one of which works strangely. It lacks a "takara" or is this normal?

Exactly what is it about the textbox shifted.

Oh, I forgot to test something! I do not know if this small heart gives life to Link or it's a fake heart. I'll try to see it!

EDIT : This is a normal small heart!

EDIT : I confirm that the small heart is the default item in a chest! The second is the green rupee!

00 Small Heart
01 Green Rupee
...

Example with a "takara" in Stage.dzs

72613200

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
