Managed to extract a bunch of bonus images out of the F-Zero X disk expansion which would be used by the Mario Artist series--especially Paint Studio, but really anything that can accept its image format. Basically, they're fairly large images of each of the pilots: 216x202 c16 with a 16x16 icon for selecting them in the menu.

You'd usually take your F-Zero X expansion disk and stuff it in the drive while Paint Studio is running (or any other part of the Artist series that can read them), and it would be able to see the directory and let you copy them.

I mention it here not because its a hidden feature so much but because it isn't exactly a well-known feature. You'd be hard-pressed to find it referenced on the english-speaking part of the web. Presumably other games would have this kind of bonus content as well, and pretty sure it was all available as DLC as well.

This has the full compliment converted to targas, as well as an explaination of the format and file structures for any interested.

Hey, sorry to see this so late. I actually have the physical N64DD, F-Zero X Expansion Kit and all three Mario Artist disks. Could you explain in more detail how they interoperate so I could take some pictures?

In Mario Artist there should be a disk icon that allows you to switch disks. You should be able to just shove the F-Zero X disk in and be able to copy the files then.
