Completely new here, so if this is not really the format for making contributions to the Wiki, I apologize. I also apologize if someone else already posted these beforehand, I couldn't find them as far as I know.

Secret of Mana:

In most versions the boss Kettle Kin is a palette swap of a previous boss, Kilroy.

In Seiken Densetsu 2, however, the boss is very different in an awesome way (Though the second form is a little ridiculous):

I cannot find the context of the drill going into the ground, and perhaps it is unused. That would be curious, given that the wheel in the other version has two unused sprites as well, representing directions that Kettle Kin never turns.

Actraiser 2:

True to form for most SNES games of the time, the US version shows less skin on the boss of the Ice Palace.

US: JP:

The big ghost minibosses also got a cosmetic change. The horns change shape and become the same color as the rest of the sprite, and the US version adds sharp rows of teeth. These changes apply to the palette swapped version fought later as well.

US: JP:

Speaking of which, the boss rooms used for the rematches with the minibosses in the Tower of Souls (or Tower of Babel in the Japanese version) change to eliminate the Star of David religious imagery. Also worth noting that the spheres held by the statues are smaller in the US version, but also start out black and flash into blue to mimic the blue wall effects that appear as soon as you are in the center of the room:

JP:

US:

So is this the basic format for contributing to the wiki, or am I doing it wrong? I have other stuff to contribute, but I didn't want to overload with it on the off chance I was doing things incorrectly. xD

Very good information! I'm pretty sure you could submit it to the Wiki with this amount of work, and its good format for the Wiki. Just might want to hold on to submitting the Kettle Kin's drill stuff, until someone can confirm its unused. ^^

Otherwise, welcome aboard, and good research! XD

I have a savestate on SNES9x at the Kettle Kin fight in japanese. I haven't got a clue what his japanese name is, I can't read it unfortunately. XD If anyone has better means to confirm it I'd love to help out any way that I could.

Looking at the Internet, Kettle Kin is named Death Machine. A site says, according to a Japanese guide, he rides around on a drill.

Again, I have no way to confirm this, but here's the link anyways:

http://www.seikens.com/bestiary/golem/

And an actual fight against him:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzIMqiT570o

In the video, I don't see him drill into the ground, but that just may not happen in the video. It looks like he rides his drill during a second or third phase of the battle, so there may not be enough time to see it in action before he is defeated.

Play the savestate and wait around a while, me thinks.

Okay, the thread's title is already a lie because I just remembered something from a particular NES game that I highly favor. If I want to submit things to the wiki, should I just make an account on the wiki page, or do I have to go through some other sort of process in getting approval for info to submit? I'm just very new to this site, just recently discovered it and find it so fun. xD

Anyway, here's some more stuff I thought I'd share.

Ys III - Wanderers from Ys:

In the Japanese version of Ys III, there is a rather detailed crucifix. Most games of the time usually just had a cross, Ys went the whole nine and made sure Jesus was nailed to it. The puzzling thing is that the game is home to a number of other gods already, making one wonder whether real world religions actually do play a part in the game's world at all. Naturally this imagery was completely cut out by the censors.

JP: US:

Clash at Demonhead

In the ROM for both the Japanese and English versions of the game, there are a number of unused enemies that can be found in the tiles. The enemy tiles are arranged showing what route they appear on (except for enemies that appear on multiple routes), so it is plausible that the unused enemies could be associated to a route this way. The enemies bear some resemblance to other enemies both in body size, direction they are facing and general appearance, allowing one to also guess what behavior they might have had.

Official palettes are unknown (Although the largest monster is likely correct since all other monsters of this size are the same exact palette).

(Newbie Problems: I don't have the specific routes associated to each enemy in an actual list, and I don't know if that information, in addition to the stuff about enemy behavior is even worth mentioning. Also as I said I don't have any way to know if the palettes are correct, and if that's the case should I just make them some sort of standard tile-viewer default palette?)

X-Kaliber 2097

Title Differences:

Apparently in America, it's bad to have a game with the word Maniac, but having terrible 90's spelling is okay.

JP: US:

Name Differences:

In the game's Duel mode the main character's and enemies' names can be seen right from the start. Some differences are major, some are minor. All are ridiculous.

Japanese vs English:
Gear - Slash
Tattoo - Tattoo Man
T.T. - Chainsaw
Cocktail - Kane
Dr. Mad - Dr. Blast
Creapy - Spuke
Siegdyne - Raptor

Oddly enough, Kane is still called Cocktail in the Beta version of the english game, even in the game's opening during his dialogue with Raptor. Seems like the theme of being named after something you have on your person caught up with him.

Graphic Differences:

Since the main character was no longer called Gear, the English version did away with a frame from the opening scenes that showed a file of him with his Japanese name. Perhaps its because they were lazy, or maybe it's because the file tells us nothing at all.

JP Only:

The main villain's right hand man Spuke also got a cut from his Japanese counterpart, removing the pentagram reference from his cutscene graphics.

JP: US:

The final battle also got similar cuts. The same pentagram appears in the final battle on the floor, replaced by a grid in the English version. The female supporting character is no longer seen hovering in the air with her arms out like she's on a cross during the battle either, although it is still clear that she is captured and feeding the villain power due to the cutscene prior.

JP: US:

Despite the aforementioned visual cuts, the game retained its violent content like slight blood trickles in cutscenes or enemies getting chopped in half from Slash's sword.

Music Differences:

The soundtracks between X-Kaliber 2097 and Sword Maniac are entirely different. The English version features music by Psykosonik, while the Japanese version's music was composed by Hayato Matsuo and Hitoshi Sakimoto.

JP: US:

(Newbie Problems: I don't have a video or MP3 representing Sword Maniac's soundtrack. Youtube has tracks from an arranged album that does not show what the SFC version's music actually sounded like)

Ha, X-Kaliber. I love the hell outta that game and I'm glad to see someone took the time to detail the differences... I can add your information if you'd like.

I also happen to own the Psykosonik album. :p I'm pretty sure there's SPC sets of the game out there, too.

I'd appreciate it, thanks! I edited the info on X-Kaliber to include the title screens, which I took screenshots of but forgot to post at first. :X

No problem, thanks. In regards to Ys III, the series has always been weird regarding its religion and real-world counterparts. Some characters in Origin and Oath in Felghana (PC versions) appear heavily influenced by Catholicism, yet never mention any deities by name.

I wonder if the cross is in the other Ys III games of the era? It's definitely NOT in Oath in Felghana (PC), at least.

Edit:
I just found out that the game has a stage select code so I'll be adding that too. And, I wondered if the US version of the game had any remnants of the Japanese music... and I found some stuff. I'll work on that later today.

Edit again:
Starter page is up. I'll add the rest of your stuff, as well as samples from the unused music in the US version, later today or tomorrow, if time permits.

I think some of those Clash at Demonhead graphics are used in the Dengeki Big Bang proto that's been dumped. I know the proto definitely uses different enemy sprites in several places.

The remix of Silicon Jesus on X-Kalibur actually appears on the single for the song. It's the Break The Screen mix. Just higher fidelity, and with the song's lyrics.

From Grooveshark.

Did you know they were also the Power of Se7en, doing music for Marathon 2 and Infinity as well. Listen to the Marathon theme.

Marathon 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=el5yD2Ayokw

And Infinity: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXwevR52t5k

I only own Unlearn, I need to pick up their first album. Did get Welcome To My Mind and a remix from iTunes.

They also did two original songs for each of the Mortal Kombat movies. I think they like video games

Liked. They disbanded after their third album was shelved. I wish they'd release it somewhere like Bandcamp.

Allow me to show you how to play back the music, considering I found them in the first place. Here's my music modifier for both games (the codes work on both versions):

Activision Logo Music Modifier
808065xx
(this one was meant more for SPC dumping... heh...)

In-Game Music Modifier
7E0A1Fxx

The range for the US version, X-Kaliber 2097, is 00-01, 04-06, 0A-0E, 10, 13. 02-03, 07, 0F, 11 are wrong-sample duplicates starting at a different point in the song. 08-09, 12 is silence. 14 looks like a duplicate. There is no more music after 14. The unused music from Sword Maniac (except with X-Kaliber 2097's samples) is located at 0B-0E.

The range for the Japanese version, Sword Maniac is 00, 02-08, 0A-0E. 01, 09 is a mid-point duplicate. There is no more music after 0E.

... I was using the sound test in the options of the US game.

7e002Dxx changes the value of the selected song. 07 and 08 load the only two songs I could find - two jingles that kept looping. The rest of the values I tried either crashed the game or loaded a song with bad samples. I'm not exactly sure if the songs I found used X-Kaliber's samples or not, I need to compare them both to be sure. I'll add your method to the article instead, if you don't mind.

So it turns out the Prototype of Dengeki Big Bang has only used one or two of the enemy sprites I've posted so far.

However, I haven't gone through every route of the game yet, and I can already say it contains even MORE enemies that don't appear in the final games, even in their tiles. I'll be posting them up soon.

Okay, I played through the whole Prototype normally. I found that a number of the monsters I found that were unused in the Final game were used in the Prototype, but not all. I want to play the two versions side by side through each route and document all the differences, but if I do, would it be better to just post images of the enemies that are different, or post a whole screenshot showing the differences in game? If I was to do it with screenshots, the page would fill up very quickly (which may or may not be a good thing xD).

Other things I am going to document is Regional Differences (There's a couple simple ones, mostly cutscenes in Dengeki that weren't in the original), as well as some name changes (Apparently Tom Guycot is called Jesus in Dengeki Big Bang).

Last thing I thought I'd mention, I used the PAR code 00053D-04, which makes all your shots into the Sword of Apollo, formerly reserved for the 2nd fight against the Demon. In most areas the graphics are glitched. In normal areas it shoots two halves of the Hermit, in boss rooms it shoots Guycot's dead body graphic, but in cave sections (such as where it is normally used) it appears as the Sword. I used it against the first form of the Demon, and I was able to actually kill him. The game actually continues as if you lost against him (minus the cutscene), so it's pretty much worthless except for mentioning the fact that you CAN kill that form by cheating that way. Also the sword is INCREDIBLY powerful. Normal bosses die in only a few hits.

EDIT: I forgot to mention! The prototype doesn't let you progress through the door leading into the final area! You can never fight Bopper a 2nd time or finish the game.

That can probably be hacked around. The door is supposed to open when you beat Bopper the first time, right? If you can provide a password or savestate from the retail version of Dengeki Big Bang right before the first fight with Bopper, I should be able to figure out what flag gets set by beating him. If you set that same flag in the proto, the door should open.

Last O/T post, I swear! I think six of the third album's tracks were released. Five of them through Daniel Lenz's website, than a new one plus four of them rerecorded of the previous on Lenz's 2008 album. The last song, Aliens, was released on Lenz's solo album, Stuck In A Dream, has Paul Sebastian, the singer from Psykosonik. Its very Unlearn like and downtempo.

The ones on the website were Paypal only and supposedly different recordings, but there's no way to acquire them now. Time machine for 2004, and five bucks, anyone?

Permission granted. By the way... I used that exact same trick a long time ago by using a sound test music modifier. I got a looping Game Over jingle, but once I actually invented a music modifier, I knew I had a bad version. It used X-Kaliber's samples (My instincts say Sword Maniac's sample pack was replaced in the process).

I have loads of other SNES music modifiers that I have used to find unused or unidentified music. I could go on and on as to what music I have found...

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
