I'm so obsessed with spices it's not funny. I just bought a
2 oz jar of ground lavender from a family-owned organic farm in Arizona and now I'm thinking about some other spices I could have in my life but I'm missing. Like sumac. Or cardamon. Or sesame seeds. Or chervil. Cress. Cicely. Fenugreek.
These flavors are like my palette and I want as many colors as I can get.
But for now, I'm seriously so excited about lavender. It's an essential part of Provençal cooking and most herbes de Provence mixtures leave it out because it's hard to find in the US. But lavender also has a surprising number of fun food pairings like lobster or vanilla or blueberries and I really really want to just explore all of these.
The first thing I'll probably do is make some (gluten-free!) mascarpone-vanilla-lavender sugar cookies. Maybe fill it with some homemade blueberry preserve. I don't know. I just know it's going to be awesome.
