Link to article about my issue.

So.

A few months ago I got new work shoes. Like all shoes, you need to break them in. After a short time, I started to have pain in my large toe. I figured it was from the shoe and that I would get used to it. I'm not sure when I got used to the shoes, but I did.

A few weeks ago I noticed a bruised on my nail (or behind it). It did hurt when I would put pressure to it.

Then it started to turn yellow and the nail started to get thicker. I wasn't sure what to think. A week ago I got some fungus nail cream stuff that I have been using everyday.

I think its getting better, but tonight, after my shower and after putting the medicine on (you use a small brush to rub on the nail) I got the nail clippers to use to clean the side of the nail, to make sure the nail stays clean.

Then I noticed it. The nail pulled away slightly. I tested it. I took the file part of the clippers and pulled a little at the base of the nail (where its the thickest) and it pulled up. This makes me believe (and from what I read at that website linked above) that my nail is going to fall off.

Now, after more reading online, this could be due to a fungus, the work shoe, or having hitting my toe.

As I was trying to sleep, I kept thinking about it and then more I thought about it the more I think its because of the shoe.

Now there is no pain. Even when I slightly tugged on the nail, I didn't feel anything.

I decided to stop by Walmart (at 3:30am) to get new shoes. Its good to have more than one work shoe anyway, so it not a big deal if my current work shoes are the problem.

So yea, my nail might fall off. I'm a bit freaked out by it, but like I said, there is no pain, only a yellow nail. There is no blood, puss, liquid, redness...nothing but yellow and a slightly thicker nail.

I had that same problem (at least just a yellowed, thickened toenail.)

It takes about 6-9 months for it to grow out pretty much I found. Strangely enough, I did notice that there was a very sharp transition between the thick nail and the fresh, new nail.

Either way, ick. :x

You should probably consider seeing a doctor about that sort of thing.

Need to find a Doctor first or just head over to the urgent care across the street, however I don't think I will have to.

Talked to a few people at work and one person said its probably because of work and having my feet in socks all the time (at work and when I sleep).

I'll keep an eye on it either way.

This happened to me a long time ago. At the very least, it's easy to hide toenail damage, and the nail will grow back if it falls off. It's not that worrisome.

This.

I actually had this exact thing happen once. It was weird, and also funny 'cause the new nail was growing right under it anyway. It was just kind of surreal, I stared at it and looked it over for a while. XD

Mine fell off once, but for a different reason. I smashed it pretty hard with a coffee table, trying to pick it up by myself. It was purple for a while and eventually grew out and fell off. Underneath was a new one coming in already.

But yeah, in your situation it should grow back even if it does fall off. But you may want to see a doctor to rule out fungus. Depending on your insurance, it'd be cheapest to schedule a primary doctor visit instead of using urgent care.

I tend to wear socks literally all the time and yet my toenails have been more or less healthy. Then again I never had a job, let alone one where I'm standing all the time.

In fact the few times where my feet got afflictions was when I was a clumsy idiot and broke my fifth metatarsal, and was walking around the house barefoot due to it being so hot and ending up with a wart as a result.

Feet can be weird shit.

I hate toenails. Nothing but pain and headaches especially when they get in-grown.
