As Exams get closer, I already know that I will have limited sleep time--Less than ever before.
However, my body is strange in the fact that no one technique for staying awake works for more than a few days. I continually have to shuffle through different staying-awake techniques in order to actually do so.
I can run well on 3-4 hours per night with no serious repercussions whatsoever, but I just need to combat the drowsiness that I feel from 12-3am, or even if I must pull an all-night study session, because drowsiness tends to make that 3 hours as efficient as 30 minutes of intense studying during the day.
Current Arsenal:
- 2 2L bottles of Coke.
- Adderall (mostly used for intense focusing even though I am not ADHD).
- Practically Unlimited Supply of strong tea.
- Abundance of Midnight snacks.
- Black Coffee (I have not tried this, but I am willing to do so if I hear that it actually works well).
Are there any other tricks that I can use to combat this drowsiness? / What do you do to combat drowsiness? |

I don't normally ban for offsite behavior but you're a whole level of terrible.

This is a tough cookie.
For me, it was as simple as breathing. I got so used to getting no sleep that I was never tired, and being a runner, this was extremely beneficial for combating the drowsiness that came post race.
My best advice is to dip your head in ice cold water or something. Apparently that really wakes people up. I'm not kidding either. Apparently it's a cheap tactic for waking right back up.
I'd also try listening to wicked intense music if that's your thing. ____________________ What Would Leggy Do? |

I am very much in the same boat, it being 1:30am, I woke up an hour ago, I've had 4 hours of sleep and I plan on spending the morning doing Ethics revision. What I find helps is to set a decent time for you to go to bed, which would be about 7pm for me right now, and then do some task that makes you unaware of the time, but make it something fun. So, for example, play a game that you love. For me, that'd be Ocarina of Time or Skyrim. Also, what helps me is hot drinks. I find that the steam from the liquid in the cup hits my eyes and they feel a little more refreshed. Which reminds me, I must go make a cup of tea. Also, bare in mind that at about 1-3pm, you're gonna be hit with a massive wave of exhaustion. If you can battle through that, you should be perfectly fine to go.

I'd stick with the suggestions in this thread instead of doing speed.
