Have one that is even worse because sex is so taboo apparently that we have to ban any touching whatsoever.

One instance of this image really isn't enough.

(I hope that shows up correctly )

I totally like the background for this thread. It is the epitome of my feelings toward this country planet lately. :/

I keep trying to distance myself from politics and news in general; it's just too insane.

I honestly think a lot of current-day problems are because there's too many people on the planet.

However, the only ethical way to solve this issue would be to impose a limit on how many children are allowed to a family. 1 if you want the population to steadily decline, or 2 if you want the population to stay roughly stable. This kind of limitation would be met with hell from everyone though.

Then you end up with China problems, where they dump babies of the wrong gender. Not so good.

I would be able to deal with it pretty well. Then again I really don't want to have children anyway.

The problem cannot be fixed except by going out and mining asteroids and working to expand into space.

That's basically it. Otherwise humanity as a whole is doomed to suffering.

So long as we don't import too much space debris and/or space water beck to Earth...

We don't really need to expand much into space to solve our resource problem. I think what we need is an energy breakthrough, probably with solar energy.

Of course, it's hard to know whether we will actually get one soon enough if at all...

We should invest more in R&D and education and far far less in defense; and not just us, the entire world should. But oh well

I support the idea of requiring people to pass an intelligence test and get a license to be allowed to breed. Unfortunately, I don't think such a system can ever work in practice. Whomever is in charge of the tests ultimately has too much power, people get pregnant by accident, and all sorts of other issues.

Problem is, we make our electronics and other devices out of rare materials, so more energy won't mean much if we run out of palladium and other rare earths used in electronics.

Plus the whole water issue.

Easier to move into space. Makes room for there to eventually be longer term space stations, space bases, etc. Humanity can then expand into the vastness of space.

But then we'd have to have the urge to not live in this universe anymore, and for some reason that doesn't pack much of a punch as planet, to be quite honest.

At least you could probably live a few billion miles away from everyone, if you wanted.

There are plenty of metals and even water floating around in space... trouble is reaching them. (and either making other planets inhabitable, and reaching them, and keeping some semblance of communication over such great distances, or finding room on/in Earth for these new materials and the ever-growing population.)

I'd be worried bringing back resources to Earth from space if they involve copious amounts of a specific resource, if only because Earth is surprisingly delicate and having too much of, say, water, would end up spelling doom for us all.

Hence why we should have good space technology. By the time we can BRING that stuff here, we should be able to remove it if needed.
