Ehh, give Windows 7 a chance. At first I was wary as well, but it's definitely the best release of Windows to date. It should at least run about as fast as XP does. Besides -- drivers may not exist for your hardware under XP, especially these days.

There is this weird cursor lag in directdraw applications I get when on 7, but not XP really.

And Windows 7 isn't really that bad. Give it a try, and I think you'll like it. It has a lot of features that I wish XP had, such as being able to maximize windows by dragging them to the top, dragging windows to the sides to make them side-by-side.

I haven't bothered to boot XP since I installed 7. It has its share of annoyances and incompatibilities (anything that used DirectDraw looks like pixelated garbage now, and some programs simply can't get along with Aero), but overall it performs remarkably well. And thankfully, VMware Player is free and runs XP flawlessly for those programs that refuse to work in 7.

Well, in my case, I pretty much got all the good parts from 7 modded into my XP install.

Also, got it dual-booting 7 and XP now :3

Seriously though, I got told to start in the morning after being told I have the job, then a few hours later when I'm back home, phone rings.

"I regret to inform you that you are not going to be working as the position has been taken".

Basically, I found that someone else applied after I was hired with a "better cv" and that got me fired.

Man, that sucks... you'd think a formal offer of employment would be considered some kind of binding contract or something, though I don't know how British law works. (Like, at all. Not one bit. Or American law. Don't go by what I say for legal advice.
