I have noticed on my Massive Cutting room floor sweep that the talk pages are not used that often. The reason i brought this up is because most debug/unused content is not explained enough or at all. An example of this is the unused key animation in Wario Land 4. Although it mentions that it looks like something from another game it does not mention that the animation is blatantly meant for when you are in front of the chest which cannot be done in the final game since the Chests are solid. It may not seem that important to you but to me it is. I believe all unused content should come with possible explanations or other things to make the wiki more interesting as some pages look more like lists without it. What are your opinions?

We don't use the talk pages a whole lot because we have this forum here to talk about things.

But that it usually when you've found something. No-one wants a Forum full of 'Maybe' or 'Possibly'. Do you agree that some pages need better explanations though?

I don't think most people look at the talk pages. However, I would think that non-factual information such as educated speculation based on factual information could be a good thing to put in the talk pages. But you would probably need to be quite knowledgeable on many aspects for your speculation to be credible. Such areas to be knowledgeable in would be (depending on the situation): used and unused content in the game, other games in the series, other games by the company, how the content is handled within the game's file(s), the internal workings of the game, the alpha/beta/prototype and development process, etc. Wild speculation on a subject may be correct, but it dose not have any credibility.

Just my opinion. In the end, it's not my place to say what can and can't be put on the talk pages.

Talk pages are all but worthless for anything larger than simple discussions because without setting up a watch list for every talk page ever there's no way to check for new edits to it.

(The recent changes list may show up to 500 at one time, if you like the error with the same number)

I agree that a lot of the discoveries on the Wiki need more information, and I often find myself wondering about them when not enough detail is provided. That being said, I also commonly see the speculation you say ought to be relegated to the forums or the Talk Pages on the actual Wiki pages themselves. (In my case, I especially come across a lot of speculation related to Japanese translations that strikes me as unlikely.) Not that I blame the people who wrote it, however, I'm sure it seemed like a likely theory to them, and goodness knows I come up with plenty of my own theories when I have zero knowledge of hacking and how games actually work.

I also agree with SamuelEarl666 that Talk Pages and the forums are good for discussing discoveries and asking questions. I often read the Talk Pages for games I'm interested in, because sometimes I find things that haven't been added to the Wiki already, or are simply interesting to read the stories behind. If his goal is to encourage the use of discussion pages and increase the amount of detail provided on what a discovery means or the context surrounding it, I'm all for that.

Speculation goes on Talk pages. In-depth factual explanations go on Notes pages. The latter is woefully underused.
