Since there's been a lot of "IT'S SHIT" about the logo for Windows 8, I thought I'd try my hand at coming up with a redesign for it.

I used Arial, as tradition in the (older) windows logos, and made the window look... less bland in design, also adding the trademark colors.

Interestingly enough, I noticed that even after they changed the font for Windows 7, the numbers have still been in Arial.

Anywho, Here's my attempt at it at the least

EDIT: Now with gradients.

I tried google searching it and came up with 1202902842332 different images that looked different.

The flat colors don't look too great though, and rounded edges make -everything- better :V

But it's arguable my font choice better suits metro than theirs!

I like the solid colors better, but I'm probably just sick of gradients. Though your choice of colors for the gradient are good, and the actual ramping seems interesting. Not quite the usual linear RGB blend, though that could just be a misconception. Working the colors in with a more 80s90s line or block pattern would be neat (see the O in the 80s microsoft logo, or the old diet pepsi can design, or the way the old windows logo kind of "faded out" in to squares/)/

Hmm... I saw a *very* similar logo on the Windows Team Blog from "OpticShape". Just reversed, without the rounded edges.

Seems to be a common realign for the w8 logo though.

That's cause it looks good.

I might take a crack at making a sharp version, and fiddling with colors later.

Sticking with arial though. Square dot on the i after all.

Arial is a nice choice for the font. After all, Microsoft designed it themselves.


The logo is not bad, and I definitely like the gradient version more. However, the emblem feels kinda... pushy? I dunno, it almost feels like the logo is in my face or coming at it or something. Maybe that's just me.

Well, shoving the product into your face is probably a good commercial strategy! And it does make the logo itself more iconinc, which is the important thing.

Though yeah, doesn't seem "Metro" at all... but to be honest I think Metro is a horrible design anyway.

It seems to me that the most results for the Win8 logo is 4 blue screens. Rather fitting.

But your logo with the gradients is excellent; I love it!

But yeah, I don't know too much how the logo works as a whole. The point of the new Windows look was to Metro-ify everything, even the logo.

But if Windows 8 was never Metro'd, I guess this'd be alright.
