All right, before I start, I know this was never released, but I'm pointing out some interesting things in these screenshots.

On this page is the main repository of Metroid IV screenshots.

Under the MDb section (section 2), I noticed something very surprising: the gems from Wario Land 4. Thinking on this, Metroid Fusion was built on Wario Land 4. Before I noticed this, I thought like many that MIV was a separate game, but this could be a link showing that Metroid IV led to Fusion, meaning that there's a possibility of graphics being left over in either the retail version or a late-stage review copy. :O

Thoughts?

it's pretty common knowledge that the two games shared an engine iirc, there's a test room from Wario Land 4 in Metroid. Hilariously enough, Metroid 2 and Wario Land 1 also share an engine (as well as SML2 and maybe others, for all I know) ... oh Nintendo.

I don't think it reusing the engine is what's interesting here... it's that this early, early version still has the same left-over resources that the final game also had, despite the huge amount of overhauls. You'd almost think that there'd be some leftovers from this early point of development.

Warioland 4 came out in 2001, but when did these early Metroid pics surface? Metroid Fusion wasn't released until 2002.

This is just a random observation, but that ship design looks rather similar to the G.F.S. Olympus in Metroid Prime 3. Very clever, Retro!


Also, those screenshots are labeled as being from May 17, 2001. That puts it at a year and a half before the game's release date.

Have we investigated all known versions of Metroid Fusion? Leftovers may very well be in earlier copies of the game.
