I don't do anything with my hair. I'm a 21 year old guy who just lets it grow out and then razors it shorts when it gets about the length it is now. It's curly hair and when I grow it out it never falls down, just keeps going up like a fro.

Here are very recent pictures of my hair in its current state...

As you can see, I also just let my mustache and beard grow out because I equally have no idea what to do with them. I shape the beard every so often but nothing special.

I'm looking for advice. My hair bugs me when it's default, so I'm looking for opinions on what I can do with it. What do you think would look good? What should I try? I don't have any experience with hair stuff, so I don't have any perspective on styles or anything.

Also, I would love to know what I should do with my facial hair. I've been told by most people that I look better with facial hair, but I don't know what I should do with it. Can any of you possibly see a beard style that may work for me?

Oh! Here's a question, too. Stylists/Salons. Do men go to the same ones that women do? Would they also be able to help me and give opinions? It would be mighty embarrassing to enter one and find out the place I've entered is for women only...

I'm a girl, but my hair is pretty curly.

My advice? Hair products geared towards black people. Seriously, they've done wonders for my hair, even though I myself am not black (the texture of my hair is similar enough that they're practically miraculous for me).

You remind me a little bit of Seth Rogen. Curly hair, beard, etc. I could picture you with hair styled like this:



The best thing you could do is go to a hair salon, find one that's not really expensive. We have "Supercuts" here that is just an average place, nothing fancy and they're relatively low priced. About $20-$30 would be the right price. Tell them you want it a little shorter and a little styled.

What I usually do is put some mousse in and then use a wide tooth comb to slick it back when its long or spike it slightly and then push it forward with my hand when its short. My hair is straight as a nail though, I have the opposite problem of it wanting to just fall straight down. When its long, it takes a lot of mousse just to get it to stay back.

So go have it professionally cut somewhere, see what they do to style it and then mimic that at home.

go to a professional for super hair advice! and maybe trim down the beard, it's a bit much to me

i'd totally get rid of the mustache though...

if you don't want to take the time to style your hair (because i sure don't), keep it trimmed down before it gets all fro-y

pro's advice though--i'm not qualified. i only have wavy hair (and a LOT of it)

Alrighty, that's all really helpful advice. Also, I've heard the Seth Rogan comparison before xD

I trimmed the beard and removed the mustache, and that looks pretty good, so now it's just a matter of figuring out what to do with this hair... I'll have to try a salon, and maybe have a picture of Seth ready to show them =P.

Don't be afraid to go to a salon and ask questions to get your hair treated the way women do. After all, women know more about their hair than you do, and those chicks are professionals.

I used to have very bad dandruff issues but once I learned to scrub my hair with my fingertips instead of my nails. It changed everything.

Also, don't use Axe or whatever high dollar piece of shit stores try to throw at you. Get Head and Shoulders Dermatologist approved. Or bust.

Conditioner might also be good to kinda straighten out your hair. But I don't have curly hair. So I dunno how to help you there.

I highly agree with this. Head and Shoulders Shampoo and Conditioner is pretty expensive (well, relative to my family's pittance of an income), but it works fantastically. I have long hair and it really makes it look good.

Yeah, I'm one of the very few male clients in the salon I go to. Perhaps there's more, but every time I'm there I've only twice seen another male customer in my...close to year and a half of going to this stylist now. No shame in that, really, though I'm also someone who is fairly comfortable around women moreso than men so that whole environment was never particularly off-putting. Point is, those ladies will do your hair right.

I find its best to invest a little bit more money in to a haircut and style that'll look really good and that you can keep for a while, instead of spending a little bit of money for a cheap trim that does little more than maintain your length. And yeah, they will likely try to sell you product while you're there. I swear by Head and Shoulders, so unless there is a very specific reason (such as when I had my hair ionically straightened), don't bother with any shampoo they try to sell you--it's not completely necessary and will be very expensive. If they try to sell you a wax or other styling product that they used to get your hair the way they did, however, I'd recommend at least investing in that so you can maintain the style after the fact. Also note that there are different types of Head and Shoulders. Just be safe and get the regular kind unless you know you need something like a volumizer.

If they don't show you how, make sure you ask how to use it, have them demonstrate and show you how they got your hair the way they did. Try to style it yourself and make sure that you understand how they got it that way so you don't get home and realize you can't get it looking quite right after you've washed it--this is experience talking over-all, don't be afraid to ask questions and keep an open mind--a good stylist will know what will and won't work for you, and while they are usually able to accommodate most requests, they'll let you know if something won't work quite right (be it due to your type of hair or any other number of reasons) and offer helpful alternatives.
