| Long story short, one of the Unreal prototype hunters, Leo TCK, managed to get his hands on some old development tools from 1996 for the Unreal Engine. These tools were supposed to be used for X-COM: Alliance, but there's some very, very interesting stuff hidden in them; models and a handful of textures from Unreal 1 spanning from late 1994 to the middle of 1996. Here's what's been found so for: - Minotaur - Wizard - Gargoyle - Pegasus (!) - A Golem - A claw - Quadshot shotgun - Three-sided blade - A chandelier - A Skaarj head - Male model (dated to early 1995!) - 1996-era Brute textures - Armor texture with different shoulders - Strange, lizard-like creature that somewhat reminds me of the final's Nali Cow. - Automag pistol seen in old, old screenshots, both item and holding models - Blob monster from the Unreal 1997 prototype All of these are unused in the final game. Here's a big screenshot showing the more unusual models: ![]() It seems that Unreal 1 was going to be even more fantasy-inspired at one point, with creatures like the Pegasus, Minotaur, Golem and Gargoyle having models. From what I can tell, the Gargoyle eventually became the Warlord. Here's the Unreal 1 resources: http://www.mediafire.com/?lch5ph7a1zbfeji Unfortunately I can't make a page out of this because it isn't specifically a prototype nor found in the final game, but it's still interesting and something you guys should know about. ____________________ ![]() |
